Which scooter should i buy

I have about £2000 pounds to spend on a brand new 50cc scooter. I know i am going to lose alot of money but i like to buy brand new. I have been looking at a speed fight 2 but i am not sure which one to get. which scooter would u reccomend.

I would go for a Aprilia Ditech.

Ditech mean Direct Injection of fuel, I have one and is very good 140 mpg and the 2 stroke oil consumption is very low.
Most carbed scoots will only do 70-80mpg so it will pay for it's self.

I have had it un-restricted will pull 60mph.

Very reliable scoot with a 2 year warranty to boot.

Yeah, you will be able to get the dealer to derestrict it. You can't derestrict Ditech models yourself as most of it is computerised apart from the Variator washer.

You should also look at Gilera runner Purejets or Piaggio nrg DD, both have the same engine (Piaggio engine). Both are in your price range, come with warranty's and free insurance..

Speedfights are nice but you can't get new ones in liquid cooled, and they only come with front disk brakes. (Don't quote me on this)

i have narrowed it down to the gilera jetforce,piagio Nrg dd,Peogeut speedfight 2 and the aprilla sr 50 ditech. Which one do you think i should get. I like the piagio nrg. i was wondering how hard it is to de-restrict it and apparently it doesnt have as many security features as the others.

I'd give you the advice not to spend £2k on a new 50cc machine. Mopeds depreciate like stink and you'll probably drop it at some point (though scooters are a bit more difficult to do that with their low CoG), so you stand precious little chance of getting even half of your money back after a year.

After a single year, you can sit your test, hopefully pass it and then go out and buy anything you like. Spending £2k on a moped, then another £400 on gear and CBT and another £500-700 on insurance doesn't make sense for a machine you won't be using for long.

Of course, it is your money to spend as you wish, so do with it what you will. Plenty of people spend too much to start with and regret it later (I'm one of them).

I agree entirely with the above sentiments that it is a bad idea to buy a new 2k moped which you'll ride for a year and depreciate like stink.

We had our RX50 stolen, we still havent received the payout, which is going to be a fraction of what it was realistcially worth, my dad went out and bought a brand spanking new RS50. I begged with him not to do it, terrible waste of money for my brohter for 6 months until he turns 17, I was told to basically F off im jealous my brother getting a brand new 50 and ive got a beaten up 500cc.I thought fine screw you! and walked out the shop.

dad pays £2300 on new rs50, 5days later rs50 thrown down road on wet leaves,
as part of the sales man's pitch he said he would give my dad a garunteed £1800 for the bike to buy it off him come july unless it was dropped or crashed..

well I wont the £10 bet I layed on with my brother he'd crash it,
I'm awaiting the next £10 when my dad gets offered £800 of the dealer in july.

a £500 cheap scooter would have done exactly the same job as the whether its a 'real bike' or not.

My Speedfight 2 is utter shit. Underseat storage is poor, suspension is too hard, fuel tank is rubbish. Build quality is good, but it isn't that great. To be honest, i'd reccomend a piaggio/gilera 50. Everything is plastic, but they get good fuel economy, have the most powerful 50cc automatic engine in the world, the Hi-per 2, they have good storage under seat, and big tanks. The NRG power looks like a hoot. My old one was a decent size, too.

The speedfight does have an immobiliser, and the boa lock, but the NRG only has the steering lock. Still, i'd reccomend the piaggio.

Seems you've made the decision to buy new, but if you search around, some dealers may have some of last year's models in stock with a discount, so make sure you enquire.

As for derestricting the piaggio, i think it now has a CDI restriction, but i'm not sure. The gilera will probably use the same engine and chassis, so don't expect much difference between the two. The speedfight just has mechanical restrictions i think.

Last of all, DON'T BUY NEW unless it's not your cash

Yes they will do it.
As for buying a second hand one be careful as most of them are poorly serviced. I have heard that Purejets are prone to engine failure if a can is fitted.

The Suzuki 50 now has what looks like the Aprilia Ditech motor fitted and you can get from £1799 at the mo.

I think if you buy a new 50 and have it derestricted it has to be registered as a motorcycle now and will effect your insurance premium.

Hello

New scooty. I'm sure you will love it, but so will all the scroats from school / college. You may find that bits go missing here and there and you may get it nicked. I know it can be difficult to take advice when you have your heart set on something, but do listen to what people have said in this thread... It's really not worth it.

I bought a pug blaster 50 new for 1349. very fast accelerating for a moped. ( i know rollers this rollers that ) it has no mods. and ran ok until the other day. i think my belt is on its way out. hmm. its in the garage now. being looked at. i have no impact wrench. so cant look myself.

I have got a NRG Power DD and its not too bad. The underseat storage won't take my helmet though which is a pain, as it's supposed to. Currently the exhaust is still restricted however with the washer out of the clutch, I can get 36mph ish on the flat without completely hammering it.

Can't beat a bike thats got drum brakes the size of a 50p and and comes as standard with optional shopping basket

(keep the rest, spand on gear and start saveing for full licence)

I know you want a brand new one, but as has already been said dont bother. If you want some thing smart and like new with a warranty get a 1 year old scoot from a dealer. That way you will save your self the £800-1000 that your ped with probably drop in the first year but still get a tidy fairly new looking ped and wont have to worry about it breaking down the moment you take it out the drive way as a dealer is unlikely to sell a knackerd bike with a warranty.

Or if you do still want to get a brand new bike i would say get a supermoto / trail or sports bike 50, after 1 year it will be worth a lot more than a scoot of the same new price and it will look much better and have much more street cred. Plus if you get a trail / supermoto bike and drop it it will cost much less to repair as has much less fairings which dont cost much to buy.

all 4 can have good 70 kits & in the 125 versions can all have the 172 kit





the SR ditech is a fuel injected rather then carbed so will be abit nicer
