 |
|
If this has been posted before i never seen it, so alot of other people probably didnt either (and i dont care!)
Anyhoo, ive seen the concept of "Zero point" energy popping up in recent years. You may, or may not have noticed this: for example: Stargate Atlantis the "ZPM's" that power the city, its short for "Zero Point Module". In Half life 2, the "Gravity gun" that is also known as the "Zero point gravity generator". Im sure i could find a few more examples other than this! I just wonder, could this be the way forward? I read an article today that claimed that a Zero Point generator has been constructed, and can operate at around %500 efficiency! What was just a name before may become a reality VERY SOON. It has also been indicated that Zero Point technology might be able to power spacecraft on very small amounts of fuel! So what are your thoughts on it? Is it possible? Is it expensive? How can we possibly get energy from essentially "nowhere"? Could this have any negative side effects? (hey! we all thought fossil fuels would last forever when we discovered them!)

The concept exists, however the method of extracting energy from a vacuum is so beyond us that they don't even use it as a concept in Star Trek.
We're not even 100% sure zero point energy exists.
I reccomend reading 'The hunt for Zero point energy by Nick Cook'.
A very good book, bit scary in places until it gets so far fetched that I decided it was fiction. However it does explain the idea behind Zero Point Energy quite well.

Because these things dont happen overnight.
And the theory that this very machine rely's on goes against one of the very founding rules of physics today. Most people fail to give it credability to give it a chance. Things dont happen overnight, so they need time. ____________________ Will work for petrol

Does this relate to that theory that spaceships could reach near light speeds, sort of discovered by that German scientist Heim or someone? Who created an alternative to the Theory of Relativity, and instead relied on Quantum Mechanics?
It's an exciting prospect, and if machines have already been built, it could well end up our major power source in future years.
I'm wouldn't be surprised if the bit about the American government keeping this under wraps is true. They can't make a vast amount of money off free energy now, can they? |
