Don't!

If you have bluetooth on your phone and lots of free airtime, buy a Scala Rider I just got one yesterday. They are fantatstic. If you are speking to someone on a land line they can't even tell you are on a bike!

I've ripped out my autocom as I can also stream music from my phone to it via bluetooth.

Highly recommended!! Thumbs Up

Hmm, interesting. I'm just getting into the Autocom thing myself.

How does it compare to intercoms for sound quality, basically, does it work at high speed as an Autocom would.

Would you have to have the phone handset bar mounted to operate it?

Wouldn't the other rider/s need the same? Otherwise you can't talk to any one else who's on the move with you.

And im guessing you can only speak to one rider at a time unless you set up some sort of confrence call??

I'd not say "don't"

I'd say for your particular setup an autocom isn't as useful.

I don't have free airtime, I want to talk to my friends who also use digital radios on their autocom, I want to talk to the gf who's pillion, I want to plug my iPAQ in to listen to music and also hear the GPS instructions, and I can also (when I get my finger out) get the bluetooth attachement for the autocom to allow me to use the phone.

for me, your bluetooth widget is a cool gadget, and a nice idea, but not an autocom replacement.

Why are you going for the bluetooth mate? I think thats the most expensive way of doing it. why not just buy a lead?

I know what you mean, that's why I just said about bike to bike. No use if you want to speak to a pillion! The bluetooth attachment is a real pain at the moment for the Autocom as it's basically just a car kit. The reason I found this better is that it takes up no space on my already limited underseat storage!!

Before I got it I was concerned that quality was an issue. The Autocom noise cancelling was really good and I was worried this couldn't compete! I was amazed. The noise cancelling on the Scala is MUCH better than the autocom, also a phone call quality is much better than radio quality and its also true two way!

I just keep the phone in my pocket and use voice dialling. Works really well on the v3x. You can initiate and end a call just by tapping the button on the unit attached to the helmet, really easy to use. Obviously, with Autocom you can get it to all be bike powered and this isn't so if you use it a lot you will have to recharge it every night like a mobile but apparantly it has 7 hours of talk time!

I guess for everyone it's not an ideal replacement for an Autocom, but if you are just looking for a way to use your phone on the bike and if your mate gets one too it's a good solution for single call bike to bike communtication that you can also use whilst out riding alone to speak to anyone that has a phone!

Also there's no limit to the distance you can speak to someone. I found with the Autocom, when you really needed to speak to someone to find out where they were, you were already out of range!!!

I paid £79. I think the retail is £99, but a quick websearch comes up with cheaper places.

Looks very cool, but do you get extra wind noise with it on the outside of your lid?

How do you mean? The mic goes inside your helmet under the chin.. (slightly to the side of your mouth) but it is also designed for an open face helmet so I assume there is no problem with wind noise.

I have an Arai which are notorious for wind noise and when I have spoken to someone when I'm riding they can't tell I'm on a bike.

If anyone want's a demo send me a PM and you can call me during my commute home and see if you can hear any noise!

I'm thinking more about when you're not using it for calls.

Looking at the site the actual unit goes on the outside of the lid. Usually lids with lots of external vents etc generate extra wind noise at speed.
