my first off! (not a big drop) what to do about my bike?

well i was going to work on tuesday when i saw police and a scene of a car crash. so i was diverted and consequently was late for work. i then kinda rushed it and took a speed bump at 30 mph. next thing i was on the floor, but fortunately i only have bad grazes. i guess the bump was icy or something. atleast now i will learn not to rush getting to work on time. my front fairing definately needs changing because it is totaly broken. my left side is pretty bad, but i think i will leave it. the bike kinda hit a wall on the left side of the road. it wouldn't start when i got up. i havent had the chance to look at it becuase of work. any ideas why it didnt start? my insurance runs out next month, should i renew and then claim? or just buy new front fairing, mudguard etc...

i have a rs 125 2005 bike. i havent got a day off til thursday, and i am too depressed to really touch the bike til then. ah well the bicycle will make me fit :p

Don't claim on your insurance, have a good look over the bike and see what needs doing. If you don't know what you're looking for find someone who does.

Get any bits that are essential to get it running from ebay, or if they're minor parts and inexpensive you could always go to a dealer for ease and speed.

As for the cosmetics, leave them as they are for the next time you try to do an Evil Knievel over a speed bump

when my bike fell over on the tarmac (i wasn't near it , hot day and crappy laid tarmac ment bike fell , maybe you bike just spilled out all the fuel or its flooded

fairings for the rs are expensive as you probably well know. but you can check ebay for it . that or you know someone who's a genius with isopon.

do not claim of your insurance you will regret it . just get hold of the front fairing and mudguard and then when u get some cash either buy a new side fairing or repair it . check theres no other damage , you havn't cracked anything.

don't rush to work fuck it you'll loose 15mins to half hour tops. not work dangering yourself or getting points

i don't know anyone who knows much about bikes. i will take a closer look and describe what i can on here when i get the chance. i had a feeling the fairing would be expensive, but i couldn't find 2005 fairing on ebay. i suppose i will just go to my bike dealer and get a quote. such a crap feeling that i rushed to work to earn money, and yet i crash and probably will lose a hell of a lot more. ah well, atleast i am okay. i'll take a look at the bike on thursday with my day off when i can see because its too dark when i get home from work. on the good side, i still love biking and everytime i smell petrol or oil i get the feeling damn i wish i had my bike. anyway, i will get back to you guys sometime soon. ty for all the advice again take care everyone.

If it wont turn over first check you are getting a spark....Hold the plug cap with pliers and touch the plug end on the frame whi trying to start the bike rubber handled pliers are invaluable i learnt this when i was about 12.....
If you cant get it to start dont start panicking just yet check the carb is properly attatched to the cylinder i.e give it a good yank side to side if it moves around or comes off then it wasnt on correctly

If your carb is secured properly and it wont start then start panicking

hi guys. sorry for the non bikers terminolgy. i don't really know much about bikes and cars etc. anwyay i phoned up my dealer and they said minimum the front fairing is gonna be 155 pounds. the cost of work for them is 55 pounds. he asked me about my mounts being bent. i'm not sure what it is, but from looking at the bars etc behind the head lights, nothing seems broken.

update:

front fairing has a big chuck missing. the screws that hold the windscreen to the fairing are mostly missing.

my left indicator needs to be glued or something.

left fairing pretty scratched up. i'm gonna leave it because i am on a low income.

my clutch pedal is bent.

the bottom mudguard is shattered.

my bike won't start. the battery wasn't entirely dead, but the bike sounds like the kill switch is on or something. it doesn't sound like it normally does. the kill switch isn't on. someone mentioned that i need to check the plugs. how do i do this? the baterry is ebing charged now. please help me by today because this is my only day off in the week, and if i can get the engine to turn on, then maybe i can sort things out today. thanks for any advice.

If it doesnt sound like it normally does, the exhaust might have snapped somewhere or come away from the manifold, causing it to blow? RS125s do have the exhaust on the left, don't they... ?

When trying to start my old moped with no exhaust (working on it), it sounded really wierd, it didn't fire up cos the plug was out, just made a sort of "dub dub dub" noise every time the piston went up and down.

now i know nothing about rs 125, but....

i think they are single cylinder, so it has 1 sparkplug, hav a look around the top of the cylinder for a thick black leed coming out of it. this is a hight tension lead which carries current to the plug. take it off the engine to reveal the plug. you might need to go to a garage and borrow a pulg sprocket. take your pulg out and clean it, then reattach your hight tension lead, place the metal bit at the end of the plug against the cylinder <<edit>> Cover the hole wherwe the plug was <</edit>>, and try starting the bike. you should see a spark in the plug.

if not, you need a new plug.

if there is a spark, put the plug back in, try and start the bike, then remove the plug carefully.

if the plug is dry, there is no fule gettin to the engine, if it is wet, then erm, it should catch lol

if the plug is dry, you have to check your carb then, or a pipe may be disconected, nipped etc.

When your looking for a spark make sure you cover the hole from where the spark plug should be, otherwise you will get burnt.

I managed to stay on the smod after launching it over one of those thin but high speed bumps at about 60 ish (damn anglesey and there sneaky speedbumps), probably because i took it MX style.

A long way from fun though. Next time you take a speed bump, or indeed any bump, try standing in a kind of jockey crouch, it decompresses the suspension or such.

after charging the baterry i tried putting it back in on sunday. i was using my left hand and not looking when taking the bolt out... the bolt dropped and i couldn't find it. i went to the msn show and it was too dark to look when i got back. luckily a garage gave me one for free today. the engine works, but it took 20 seconds to ignite, which gave me a big damn scare. i used ultra tough sort of industrial tape and managed to get the headlight and fairing pieces fairly secure. my bike dealer is too busy today so can't look at it, so i had to book an appointment next thursday (my only day off and they close on sunday). i havent had a ride yet but i am well chuffed. i have a new helmet and boots cheap from the mcn show. it's a sunny day and i am about to test the bike out. the first week without my bike was okay, but the 2nd week i have been such a prick at work. i suppose my bike does make me feel good and relieves stress, but i never realised it. well guys, i think i finally will get a good ish ending. thanks for all your support and help fellow bikers. that's what biking is about i guess. big smileeeeeee
