Cleaning my bike properly Very Happy (not to craigs standards though Razz )
Thats right, I somehow got of my arse and got my hands dirty today. Instead of going for a pointless ride i took the time to give it a clean up.

I wanted to do the back end of the bike first, so instead of just doing the bits i could get to, i actually took of the backfairing off and so on.

All the bits are on my floor and in need of some TLC, any advice on manky looking nuts/bolts? whats the best method to get the crap off? winter has really crippled some of them Crying or Very sad

Wheels will get done when i get a paddock stand as they are a joke.
But thanks to the threads here that made me change my mental reaction to cleaning Laughing

Cool, good work Thumbs Up

I'm sure ZXR400er's kidding with the anodised Wink

What are the original fastenings made of? What kinda condition are they in.

For my bolts, I ad a tiny smidgen of Autosol onto the head, then rub very quickly whilst turning onto a laid out duster/rag - come up a treat.

Failing that, I'd opt for stainless, or if the budget extends to it; titanium.

Think they are stainless but are in a bad way, can't really see from the pic but ya get the idea.

I will get some of this autosol and give your method a try, WD40 and some Gunk- engine degreasant i have had no luck with though.

While im here, i was going to ask if someone knew of a way to help me with my seat, what happend was when i last sprayed my screen with this shitty product some of it got onto the back of the rider seat (don't ask how) and it has faded it quite bad, i have tried many things to get the blackness back but it just keeps going a granny grey Crying or Very sad

Just been on pro-bolt and they want like 15 quid for a rear brake oil cap and for a oil filler cap too Shocked

So before i can even consider moving into Zxr400er's league i better get saving lol.

Anodised bolts don't come cheap, some would say they are worth it for the style they add! Cool

Most people would disagree on this forum ; - )

O and try www.hyperbolt.com just use tasty nut site to find out what size you need. Wink

Oh dear. Razz

Cleaning a bike is a good thing, but choosing to clean over riding, tut tut.

anodised aluminium bolts are the biggest waste of time ever. they corode way more than stainless will if your bike ever goes out in the rain, and also sieze in if bolted into anything made from steel oh and its rediculously easy to strip the heads on them, by all means by other shiney bling anodised stuff, but id steer clear of the bolts and get some good quality stainless ones Thumbs Up nice lookin bike though matey, look even better with clean wheels Very Happy

Go to a local fasteners place, get some nice stainless. Cheap, and they really make the bike look so much better (attention to detail makes a big difference Smile ).

WHAAT?

Thats even worse than staying in and polishing it!

If you want to invest money, open a bank account. If you want something pretty to look at, get a painting. If you want some fun, get a bike. Razz
