....1st run getting back into training that is!

Polished off 5 miles in about 40mins (I know it ain't great but) haven't properly trained since last May with the exception of 5-a-side.

Never bothered with the New Years resolutions as I needed a months detox off the beer!

Just had to tell folk, well chuffed with myself. Need to stick it now Very Happy

Anyone else finding it hard back training, if your doing it?

Keep meaning to get back into going to the gym, but time, working and looking after my two year old does'nt give a lot of spare time Sad

Shame as I really like it when I'm there.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not vain, but I'll be the one with rolled up sleeves going purple in front of the mirror, and thats just in the changing rooms Very Happy

I must get back into action, but I need some serious motivation.

Used to (last year pre-crash) run 6 miles in that count. Was usually pushing towards the end, so a 5 miler upon return at that pace per mile I would be damn chuffed with.

At the mo I have just signed up for a squash league, and will be returning to the fitness rather than weight gain type stuff too.

I have currently got bone infection on my right foot stopping me from walking, and I can feel the same forming on my left foot.

Running is such a pain in the arse. One day I can run a decent amount, the next I'm gasping for air at one mile in to it. Set a PB last week, three miles in 23 minutes. Need to get it below 22 mins and 30 secs.

You wouldn't happen to be training for something going with that time by chance? Marines perhaps?

Spot on cc123. Worked on my physical side, now need to work for a couple more months on the cardio side. I hate it, but the results are worth it, that's what pushes me. That and the fact that there is some really sexy girls at the gym.

I cycled to work today for the 1st time this year. 10 miles each way and a bit windy! I thought I was going to be sick on the way in!

It took 40mins to get in and 45mins to get home.

My legs are a bit stiff but the worst thing is being saddle-sore Sad

I might go for it again 2morrow and see if its easier!

Go for it Philwild. Probably won't be easier because you'll be stiff, but should get easier as time goes on. Aim to get the time down by a couple of mins.

Not a bad time for 10 miles! Does someone do the boring road riding then Phil?

Enrique, my dad used to allways piss about at the top of the first hill, a mer 800metres in and say "aahhh sack it, muppet" used to wind me up as at that stage I hadnt sorted my stride out or owt.

Riding is good, I only do it at the gym though. Me and a friend are going to start riding properly though on bicycles soon, hopefully this weekend. Going to the gym tomorrow and I know that I'm going to have a bad day there already. Probably only going to run two miles and cycle three. Always do free weights as well. But I suppose it's better than doing absolutely nothing.

I remember when I did the 800m run for the school field day, I was so fucked after doing it I collapsed on the floor, my legs we're like jelly. Looking back now, I'm amazed at how much I have achieved in only a matter of months. Just by cutting down on things and eating more of others. Been into weights for about three or four years, but this cardio stuff is a lot newer, but like I said, the results are so worth it.

Yeh, weights are what I truly enjoy at the gym, however having a love for Football, Squash and enjoying a half marathon mean it doesnt exactly fit the bill for me!

Will be playing in a squash league when my foot is healed, play saturday and sunday football and run every so often as well as doing some strength building work.

Same here, becasue of my frame, running can be a bit difficult. Running isn't a sport for muscley guys. Over time though it has gotten better. I was so chuffed when I did the 23 mins run, and I focus on the positives rather than the negatives.

So was I! I went from zero fitness to 3miles in 18mins! But that was about 6 months constant training, no alcohol or crappy foods, I was focused. Hoping to find the same level of commitment again as I've been a lazy-about since May.

Oh and that 22.5 mins, try get well below that. By the time you do the 3 miler at PRMC you will be tired from the day befores activities and its usually ran quicker than 22.5 mins.... Thumbs Up

Yeah, I'm hoping to get it to around 20 mins. For me that would be excellent. I think I'm going to try and go for the 22.30 today. Oh it's hurting already! When did you join the Marines cc123?

I guess the terrain affects your times considerably but regardless an 8 minute mile is very good in my books! My pbh is 1 mile in 6 min 15 sec, 5 miles in 38min 45sec and 10 miles in 81minute 9seconds. I try to get hilly runs though as I find the hills are good for a beasting as I loose interest running along flats.....and ten milers are boring!

I don't actually know what my PB is for just running the one mile... I think I'm going to try that. I suppose so far it would be seven mins 40 seconds.

Back in 2002. Busted my knee during training and lost heart a wee bit. First time I ever got an injury Crying or Very sad

Good times Craigie....I have no choice with terrain. I'm out in the sticks so part of my running is on road, the rest is through fields and part of a nature reserve.

Never measured my time by the mile! Always set myself a target distance, do that and keep on improving by adding extra miles and keeping a consistant speed.

Hiya CC,

I suppose its each to there on with running. I preffer to adopt a farlek approach where the run is almost like intervals.

I've found by mixing in a fitness test once a week (15 minutes to run out a mile and a half then sprinting back in undeer 9.30) with this trainng that my basic pace has increased naturally without having to try and keep a prolongued pace.

lol, my biggest problem is maintaining the point where your legs are like lead and your breathing like a fiddler in a playground...keeping the pace is f*cking tough!

Good luck on the marines...I've got P comopany in a fortnights time so one way or another I'll find out if the effort has been enough Wink

Excellent method of building up stamina

Fartlek, developed in the 1930's, comes from the Swedish for 'Speed Play' and combines continuous and interval training. Fartlek allows the athlete to run whatever distance and speed they wish, varying the intensity, and occasionally running at high intensity levels. This type of training stresses both the aerobic and anaerobic energy pathways.

I used to run the 800 and then striaght after the 1500m at school needless to say I was rubbish but I did manage to do it. I went for a 'run today' I jogged a whopping mayb 300m and was bolloxed...I then walked a further 6 miles with the pooch.

That's terrible, I'd like to get fit again and be able to do cross country etc, but running kills my knees and I hate the comments from loverly children '' keep going! you'll be as fit as your dogs soon'' Shocked Crying or Very sad

I'd also like to get figure skating again, achieved a grade 5 out of 12 then gave up after getting 'corsa'd' and never took it back up.
At the moment my big toe is swollen and painful ...not entirely sure why but Ice skates are not going on my feet.

I feel posting this will mean that I have now told you lot and I'd like to think you'd hold me to it...
