g'day all. Please help me with an ongoing issue! I own a comfortable RoadKing, I am widowed and my current gal-friend (not live-in) is insisting that I NEVER take a female passenger on an impromptu ride or poker run. I would like to get some female perspective on this matter. I view this as just helping a hitcher get the wind in her face and letting her spirit soar a bit.

Could you explain what a "poker run" is please?

"Poke her run" ? Laughing

I can see that being a problem...

Otay! A poker run here is a gathering of bikers. the destination is usually several different pubs! at each stop we collect a playing card. the idea is to try and make a good poker hand the reward for the best hand is usually a tee shirt or an oil change or some certificate to a shop. of coarse also trying not to get too pissed !

I totally agree! We live here in Montana, Idaho and Washington. It's not too very populated and the riding is wide open. No helmets required! but most people respect their lives and bodies? 10 percent of every group usually ruin it for the others. Moderation is always best

If your gf has a problem with your giving lifts to other women, perhaps you should take a look at your relationship, as she obviously doesn't trust you. (I'm a girl, so I had to say that.)

I'd say that giving somebody a lift is a generous thing, both from the point of your enabling that person to get from A to B with speed and efficiency, and also from allowing that person to feel the sheer unadulterated joy of biking. This being the States, that person probably drives a car everywhere, so hopefully she'd also now get a biker's perspective to things and might change her driving style to be more bike-considerate.

But, really, drunk pillions are not a good idea, either...

obviously there is a difference in cultures. if poker runs were too dangerous they wouldn't exist here. Sure, their are crashes related to alcohol, thats a given. But riding has inherent dangers always!

I'm with the g/f on this. She's obviously so embarrassed about being seen on the back of such agricultural machinery that she's trying to preserve the self-respect of other women in order that they can do something less demeaning in their spare time...
