So I've now had my second accident, and my pristene CBR 125 bought from these forums is now going to need some repair work.

Two lanes of traffic, the lane on the right is turning right and has a few cars stuck behind someone waiting to turn. Guy in a Vectra decides not to wait and pulls out, thus putting him directly in my path since I'm coming up the left lane.

I brake. He brakes. I slide. He doesn't. I go down on my elbow and completely miss him. And yes, it went down bloody can side. Thankfully he stopped and from talking to him he was more shook up than me, heh. Bike still starts, managed to get to work on it.

He's given me his details and everything and I've got witnesses, but god seems to have a cruel sense of humour.

My CBT ran out 2 days ago and I completely forgot. *sigh* - I'm going to get shafted now aren't I.

Bollocks - crashing sucks.

Bollocks, didn't know it was 2 days ago...

I'd try to settle with him outside of insurance if that is the case.

Good to hear you’re not hurt that’s biggy

I have to agree more so as there was no contact between you and the car the insurers will see it at best as a 50-50.

But good on him to stop and give you his details from what I have read here too many people just bugger of in a cloud of ignorance.

Hope you can get the CBT and the bike sorted out cheaply and quickly mate.

Shit mate, never nice to hear of someone going down, least your OK though.

Try and sort it outside of insurance, perhaps blag it and say you'll take a couple of hundred quid for the damage, neither of you wants to lose your NCB etc.., should work out hopefully.

Thumbs Up

To be honest I would drop it and get the damage sorted when you can. It's not worth the risk of being caught for a couple of hundred quid. In the eyes of the law ignorance is no excuse. Put it down as experience. Thumbs Up

Good luck.

Sorry to hear about the crash Sad

When I had mine and the old bill visited me, they never looked at my CBT certificate (not that there was anything wrong with it). A lot of coppers don't seem to know the rules regarding provisional licences, apart from the fact that you need to have L plates.

Good luck with the follow up..

Jon

In the event of an insurance claim the company can/will ask for copies of the relevent paperwork.

your insurance will already have a copy of the CBT, normally you have to send them a copy when your insurance was started

If it was totally his fault, then you can use a solicitor rather than your insurance company to recover damages if the third party won't co-operate. If the third party agrees, you can settle outside of insurance after getting quotes etc.

A.

[edit] oh yeah, and they always pull out without looking because they're morons who don't really give a toss and who only realise how much they can hurt someone using a car AFTER they've hit someone not in a car!!!

Thanks all - I'm going to try and settle outside of insurance anyhow since the damage is generally minor - just an indicator and some holes in the fairing and a bent brake lever really.

It's funny how it hits you later - I was fine an hour after it happened, now I'm all over the place heh

Thanks again all

Chris

Ring him ASAP and tell him that you don't think the repairs will cost all that much so you're going to get a quote and will let him know, to see if you can spare him his NCB. Then get as cheap a quote as possible. You want to ring him before he lets his insurance company know - once he's let them know about it he's more likely just to let them deal with it.

And get your CBT redone as quick as you can. Like tomorrow or at least this weekend. It might just get overlooked then, even if your insurance company asked for it, and it would certainly help with leniancy if you had to go to court.

I am doing - sorting it now. What a bugger... gods way of reminding me. Thankfully I didn't actually hit him so insurance is avoidable.

Thanks for all your advice guys, it's a real wake up call.

Easy Rider isn't too far away mate, it's near the Seaforth Bypass, they're partnered with Aintree Hein Gericke, so can't be that shite...

Millenium also offer a training service now as well.

Unfortunately the place I did mine have lost their instructor, so that's no help.

Kickstart in StHelens do a cbt for £70 with bike hire and everything included. If you use your own bike, i'm sure you could haggle a tenner off.

Cheap, effective, and full of good advice. They are seasoned riders, and one is an ex-police rider.

Jack

PS - get yourself on the spill counter

So they will know its run out in the event of a claim.

I would keep it out of the insurance ask him for a small amount that he is likley to pay or ask for nothing at all. As the damage may be less than your fine.

Good that you have witnesses; make sure you keep their details and even get them to put in writing what they saw.

Had a bad experience in the car a few years back where the other driver freely admitted respnsibility at the scene but changed his mind afterwards. I didn't have any witnesses and it was a long drawn out affair before his insurers eventually admitted liability.
