Alarm to buy.

Looking at an alarm for my ped...
Insurance approved would be good.
Would it lower my insurance at all?
Just looking really, because i'm only insured third party only, and anything to attract attention or delay theft or damage is good, with it being a fairly new bike.
Any ideas on whats good, but not too expensive, obviously being as its only for a 50.

A flashing LED is the cheapest thing youll get.....about .85p

Doesnt do anything if they do try to pinch it but maybe they wont try if it looks like its alarmed

Thats true, i could even put one inside the rear light, (The bottom one, as NRG's have 2) like the bigger bikes have, so in the dark, you can see from a distance hehe...

EDIT: There's also a lot of Datatag stickers on it, which i am just waiting to change to my name as i got no paperwork with it (not sure how to go about it :s)

The dealer should have given you a form they get with the original certificate , or original owner, pretty sure you said it was brand new

Its odd.
No paperwork.
The bike had 292km on it and was 1 year and 4 days old.
Its also had 2 owners already which i thougt was odd.
The first owner, bought it new in december, then sold it in february, the second owner of which kept it until around september, and it was in the dealer till december 19 when i bought it.
Apparently it could be an import, though the owner before me, lives about 10 miles from me in frome!

I have all the V5 and service books and so on.

I shouldn't bother with an insurance approved alarm, it's likely to make very little difference to your premium. If you really want an alarm, buy a £50 one like a solalarm or accumen. The flashing LED is likely to be just as effective.
Spend your money instead on a big chain, and chain the bike to mother earth. This is the best form of securuity there is.
If your bike is kept in a shed, garage, buy a baby monitor, leave the transmitter hidden close to your bike and the reciever by your bed. That way, if anybody tries to tamper with it overnight you'll know about it.

Its worth ringing your insurer to see actually how much difference it will make. Some are good, some dan't care.

I reduced my £450 preiumum by £90 for having a datatool alarm.

I should imagine that a £150 lock and chain around something solid would make more difference than an alarm.

Why buy and alarm, do you really pay attention to them when they go off outside? (unless its yours of course)

Get an insurance approved immobiliser or feck off big chain / lock.

A TWOCer cant see an alarm, they can see the chain.

Surely the only alarm thats worth while is a tracker? Costly though

On a 50 a lock & chain would really slow the thing down

As the others have said check with your insurance first as the discount would be next to nothing.
