Automatic Garage Doors

I was looking into electric sectional garage doors on the internet after the up and over garage door decided to eat the cables (metal ones). I was intending to fit it myself and not spend lots and lots of money on labour charges which are not affordable. Of course I would like the BCF opinion and experiences.

There are a few queries I need to clear up.

Do you mean the whole door lifts up and folds back into the garage or rolls up? I should think they are fairly easy to fit just a bit orquard. Can you imagine holding it while waiting for someone to do the screws up. Laughing

I've seen some packages for less than that on ebay.

Not sure what quality will be like though.

Just search for electric garage door or something.

With the right gear a nasty person can easily open the electric door with a special black box, you know, you get the all in one remote boxes for tv's? well the same can be done for the doors.

is that a big problem NBO? I've been looking at the auto roller shutters for my garage as it would fit neatly out of the wasy O dont want to have to leave wall space for a sectional one the rolls round really. I've seen them on ebay but dont know anyone that has bought one :S

The one's I've looked at have claimed to have rotating code system that should be pretty hard to hack.

Do you know if it's this type that is being 'cracked'?

A neighbour a few doors up is a pro locksmith and from recent conversation regarding motorcycle alarms anything is reasonably easy to crack, they are a bit harder but some of the boxes of tricks can generate a couple of thousand codes in a few minutes, his advice to me was stick with lock and key.

If your buying a garage door, don't get a canopy one. I have a canopy door and while I did manage to fit an automatic door opener to it, they are an arse. Confused

And I think I saw the best spelling of awkward EVER up there.

On a serious note a friend of mine has a garage door like you want, the little motor on the roof just looks dodgy as hell, I think I'd feel much more secure with a traditional door and a couple of big ass dead bolts.

Automating garage doors is my thing. I started a business last year converting existing doors to automatic, sadly thomson local printed the wrong phone number so the business adventure has stalled for the time being, wev'e done a few so if i can be of assistance i'll give you all the help i can. Thumbs Up
