Can every one who can scrape a knee slider describe as best they can what they do, in terms of road position, your position on bike (how you know your knees down? does it vibrate or rip you off the bike?) and stuff like that

please no answer's like " well i got my file and/or sandpaper, and it made me look like a hardcore biker when i was in the pub" Any twat can do that but i will ride around in brand new yes fucking shiny new knee slider's cos i know i cant do it, so why suggest you can do something you cant?

you are promised piccy's if i bin it and i know you all like looking at wrecked bike's and thinking what a twat he was!

Well I for one have never had nor attempted to put my knee down, I have never seen anyone I ride with do so either. I do hang my arse well off the saddle if I am giving it big-beans though.

I have decked out the belly-pan on my GPZ500 a few times and I once rode my MZ round the outside of someone on the A7 north of Galashiels who was doing so on a CBR6. Good enough to prove to me that it is overrated.

Body positioning?

Try this.....

Outside leg gripping the cut out in the tank(the bit that goes in, where you would normally have your legs)

Inside leg pushed back toward the rear of the bike NOT the floor, as this will only bring your knee in again

Bum at least one cheek off the seat, but you might want to start a bit further over, but only far enough that you feel safe.

Find a nice quiet roundabout and circulate it a few times to warm your tyre up and spot it for things like debris and diesel. If you can find one that is in the middle of a housing estate during the day when everybody is at work, or an industrial estate one after work hours, all the better.

Sensation depends entirely on your lean angle and how much you stick your knee out. If you are already close to the deck and you stick your knee out then it will slam down and you will get a lot of feedback/vibration thorough your knee, if you are just skimming the tarmac the vibration will be less continuous and 'patchy' and obviously will vibrate less.

But the very best way to learn is get someone to follow you round. You will never know how close you are on your own, cos you don't want to looking at your knee!

Yep body position.

I was sure I was hanging off as much as I could, couldnt get the body position right, until I tucked my heel tight in against the heel plate and pulled my outer most arm in against the tank and purposely pushed my elbow outwards, then it seemed to happen naturally...

Depends more on the sliders that anything else, plastic ones vary greatly in how quick they wear down and how much they 'grab' at the floor.

Leather ones are cool cos they smoke, but they do 'grab' quite a lot.

Titanium ones take forever to wear down, but make nice sparks.

I have three main pairs that I wear:

A set of WIZ plastic black and white ones for day time showing off (they match my leathers)

A set of WIZ smiley face ones with Ti rods in them for dusk/night time showing off

A set of WIZ GP sliders which are reaaly hard and wear very little and grab very little for track days when all I am interested in is how far over I am as opposed to whether I am actually making contact.

As for getting caught on anything, I have smacked my knee on cats eyes in the road and I didn't come off - It bloody hurt though! I think if you were to hit anything that solid to catch your slider, it would rip the slider off first

As RealNinja says the Titanium ones take ages to wear and when they first touch down they grab like fook!

Plastic ones slip and slide everywhere.

Only problem I ever had was that I grounded the pegs on my Gixxer and almost binned it....and a mate of mine got his knee down and hit a cats eye, his knee swelled up like a balloon lol

If your still learning, it may be an idea to wait a few months until the tarmac warms up a bit and the roads have less crap on them.

Do not attempt on cold tyres. It'll end in tears.

It's largely about body positioning than lean angle.

About how long does it take standard road tyres to warm up for a decent enough temperature to try?
