Bike onboard cameras

Stumbled across this on eBay while looking for bullet cams.

Records sound, bonus, nice neat package, no need for me to buy a seperate camcorder. Easily tucked away on the bike.

Although the frame rate worries me. 15fps.

If I'm doing 90mph down a straight (MZ bare in mind) I'll be doing 40meters per second. At 15 frames a second, I'll travel a smidge over a 2.5 meters between frames.

I've asked the seller for a sample video and we shall see. Anyone got any input? For £100, it's one of the cheapest ways of doing it I've found so far. There is a digital vid cam from hong kong (no namer) that does 30fps on av-in.

so the quality would be better, but then I'd have to store that somewhere, and I'd also have to have the extra expense of buying the bullet cam too.

I think it's huge! It may be cheap, but you get what you pay for. Mounting a camera to your tank isn't particularly hard, it can be done with gaffa tape if you liked and proper bullet cams are much smaller. And you'd get a respectable frame rate.

Based upon buying a bullet cam for £80 or thereabouts, I reckon you could sort yourself out with the whole shebang for £200, no trouble. That one's just a glorified webcam.

15fps would be utterly diabollical, you will receive the item, open it up in excitement, try it out and then look for the closest sharp item possible to slash your wrists with for spending so much money on a piece of crap.

30fps is a must. I believe G spent about £120 on one of those smaller DV camcorders, I am sure he will come along and let you know what it's like (although I believe his motive was to attach a bullet camera to it anyway).

Seriously though...do not under any circumstances buy that item.

P.S The chances of the seller supplying you with different footage taken on a higher quality camcorder just to get your custom is highly possible so take everything they say with a tubful of salt.

As said, 30 fps is the bare minimum, anything below, would be plain old shat.

dont buy it, i seen it and looked away. its just not worth it.

Personally I wouldn't want a hard disk recorder on a bike Suzuki. Hard disks spinning at 4000 rpm + fast riding = not good.
You can get solid state 640x480 30fps recorders for a fair bit less.

Of interest also is an 'oregan scientific' and 'tony hawks' helmet cameras. (Think not working so it may be one of these.) At the moment these both record at 15fps, but I believe they may be upgaded at some point. They aren't much bigger than a bullet cam it's self.

Thats not the exact one I bought but it has AV-in and I use a 1gig card in it.

I was gonna get one, but then i saw some videos of what that camera recorded and its utter shit, 15 fps is pants, the dog cam i got is 25fps which plugs into my camera is good quality, i wouldnt bother with it

He is registered in the USA, as a "private seller", ((fantastic feedback though, not criticising him)).

So, bare in mind, that this item will be shipped from the USA, it's costing £75 and you might well find yourself stung with import tax.

Won't be up to decent motorbike stuff.

I emailed them and didn't get a useful reply whether or not they would be doing a 30fps one. Reckon there will be one sometime in the next year from some company.

That records at 30fps, although it's a full on no-namer and I'm not sure I'd trust it. Expandable with SD cards.

So that'd set me back just under £80 including postage, + a bullet cam from eBay for £30... £110 30fps, sorted.

Not bad IMO.

Was a fairly generic camera, if possible I'd go for a higher quality bullet cam, though don't know if it will make much difference:
420 TV lines and above.
