Punchbags are great fun and extremely good for improving fitness and upper body strength. Technique or not you'll get big improvements if you use it regularly. If you setup a routine where you work on different aspects of fitness/body during the week that'd probably be best. Eg Some cycling one day, weights another, bag another, you'd soon notice huge improvements.

As ya know I've been trying to do various bits of training every day and it's already making a big difference. You just need to put the time in. Smile Thumbs Up

yea for cardio, you cant go wrong with a punchbag.

we did a test oneday, with a heart rate monitor, with running, rowing, cycling, swiming, cross trainer, skipping, punchbag, etc

punchbag increased heart rate the most.

do 3 minutes flat out, rest for 3 min, do this until you only need to rest for 2 minutes, and then till you only need to rest 1 minute.

Has anyone made a fitness diary/program on their computer or similar and able to post it up?

You should find a local boxing club and go there, you won't believe how fit you'll get from it! The amount of cardio involved surprises a lot of people and if you train properly with a good diet you'll get some really good abs lol Training at home is good but you'll loose interest, joining a club will mean you'll get pushed to your limits giving you good results.

Remember though, if you train and don't change your diet don't expect to get major results. However, just doing the cardio alone will make a fairly good difference to your general fitness.

get some music playing, something with a fairly fast beat, and hit the bag to a rythm, whilst skipping to the beat.
At shoulder hight;
left, right, left hook, right, left, right hook.

can also do the same for lower down the punchbag.

get a speed bag too Thumbs Up

As Jon said, a boxing club is very good - wonderful the motivation you get when an 18stone championship winning boxxer is shouting at you to keep going and not put your hands down.

I went for a while years ago; everything was done in three minute rounds with a minute rest. If you can keep that up for an hour or two it should help a lot.

No need for a bench just for dumbells (unless you've got a barbell too?). Razz

I think motivation depends on the person... I've been training every weeknight without fail. Tbh it's oddly fun after a bit.
