I posted a while ago about digital slr's but feel that's not what i really want, too expensive and bulky for what i want.

Bascially i want a small camera now that i can take wherever i go. I have been looking at the pentax optio s range. The current version is the S6 which seems pretty good https://www.pentaximaging.com/products/product_details/digital_camera--Optio_S6/reqID--6941236/subsection--optio

I was just seeing if there are any other alternatives, can't see any that small and i know pentax have decent lenses.

Also would it be worth me hanging on until i am in thailand and getting one there. My dad said do that but i am a bit skeptical. Don't really want to spend more than £150-£200 Thumbs Up

I use the Sony DSC-P10 and for a complete amateur like myself it does a cracking job. I bought it 3 years ago for around £350 but you can get comparable Sony DSCs for way under £200 now. Easy to use, fantastic build quality and suprisingly waterproof (don't ask).

Hi

While you will get it cheaper out there you loose out on the warrenty. If the warrenty doesn't worry you then just buy a grey import on Ebay.

All the best

Keith

Is it big or small? Main thing i want is compactness (if thats a word Very Happy )

The pentax is 86 x 54 x 19mm which is pretty tiny, i hate carrying a camera around so want it to be as small as possible. Thumbs Up

Depends how big your hands are Razz

I find it compact, its a bit of a different shape compared to most digi cams out there but it fits in pockets really well.

I've always been partial to the Canon IXUS range myself.

Some of those are quite small;

IXUS 750: 89.5 x 57.0 x 27.4mm
IXUS 55/50: 86.0 x 53.5 x 21.6mm
IXUS 40: 86.0 x 53.0 x 20.7mm

Bought a Panasaonic Lumix for the other half. Great camera. Smaller than a SLR, but with a 12x optical zoom.

I worked in Jessops a couple of years ago, the Pentax Optio cameras always seemed very good to me. One of the guys who worked there, who had been working there for years, swore by the Optio and bought one for himself!
