Donate your free CPU power to BBC Climate Change project

Help learn about climate change:

It is reported today on BBC news, basically the weather centre is fed up of waiting 6months for one model to be complete so they are using spare processing power on users pcs to do the number crunching for them. They are aiming to increase the quality of their predictions by running lots of models.

I am running an Athlon64 3000+ so Im happy to take part. The max temperature of the cpu gets to about 49 degrees C at most.

There will be a show on BBC4 in may with the results for those who are interested.

My spare CPU cycles go to proper research, not funding something I've already paid for.

I used to use that folding @home, and would usually leave it running overnight whenever I was downloading; only one night I came down and the computer wasn't working anymore. So I stopped.

Folding at home never caused any of my machines to die. Been playing with it for just over a year 24/7 on five boards. Lucky me I know

It's as much as the PC can do to kick itself into life each day - nomatter how fast I pedal the dynamo it's being powered from

I may do it, used to use seti also.

Apparently turning your pc on and off everyday uses more electricity and isn't very good for the parts, never seen any proof but i've had my pc on just about every day for the last 3 years (since i built it) and rarely turn it off, restart it occasionally and sometimes turn it off over night but apart from that never had a problem.
