Being 22 and riding for a little over 6 years I’ve come across all types of people with different views on bikes, when I started riding it was all about freedom, the riding itself and the bikes obviously.
I always wanted a scrambler after seeing Terminator 2 when John Connor rode the CR listening to guns and roses…..
I fell I love with it all but have always struggled to afford everything I want for myself and the bike, which then leads to a slightly negative way of thinking about biking, I guess the practicality of it, I can imagine you’ve all had comments from people like “Why not get a car?” “Bikes are dangerous” and the old favourite, “Bikes are silly”
Because I am a stubborn git I stand by my passion and won’t let it get to me.
It also makes me laugh when you see bikers depicted on TV shows for example, Street hawk (complete nutter), do you remember Biker groove when a kid got a bike and seemed to turn into a rebel and run someone’s leg over?
Or the recent story on HollyOaks where a bloke (a rapist/bad boy) rides a crosser through fields with some bint on the back. Even down to the advert at the beginning where a girl brings her bloke home and he is a biker, the look on her parents faces is classic, the look is familiar.
Not sure what I’m getting at specifically here but I posted this after reading the interview thread in General chat, what to wear, how do I look smart etc.
I turned up to a recent interview, cold, sniffing, taking off items of bike wear in front of the interviewer, I felt open to criticism and couldn’t wait to show them I wasn’t a mentalist with a will in one pocket and knife in the other.
It’s known I guess that bikers sometimes look a bit scruffy but the overall opinion seems to be that we are loons and have no respect for other road users and want to die, the feeling I get is that people think I’m just playing about and it’s a bit of a phase.
The image of biking has always given cops a few reasons to pull you, it’s true, we are battling today to get people to recognise bikes as a proper mode of transport and not just a play thing.
How do you see biking, what is biking, and……..comment on anything else really. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

Get a BMW, grow a beard, wear a fluorescent tabard and drink real ale.
This may help..........
or not.

My other half's mum always used to tell her she didn't want her going out with anyone who rides a bike.
11 years together now, 3 years married and a 6 year old daughter.

Sounds like I may be the fortunate one here...
My OH's family are either very supportive of my biking (or at the very least, tolerant).
Her mum regularly went pillion with her dad when they were younger, and her uncle *hinted* that he'd be interested in hearing how I feel if/when I hit 3 figures for the 1st time ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N
