Just a campaign to try and stop Tesco taking over the world.

Not a bad read.

Looks like a load of shit to me. Some people just can't comprehend the success of others, and jealousy sets in.

It's a competitive market, they are profitable because people like to shop there, not because they exploit cheap migrant labour.

Success is one thing. but as tesco's open more stores smaller shops are going under because they cannot compete.
Farmers are struggling as tesco's are paying them peanuts.
Its all very well saying that shoppers vote with their feet, but once the competition has gone prices will soon start to rise.
The sooner a limit is set on the number of shops they can have the better.

These people are stupid, if companies like tesco weren't around then food prices would be a lot higher and there are more consumers than corner shop proprietors.

So how come my weekly shopping bill kept going up? I buy pretty much the same items every week, yet when I was shopping at tesco my weekly bill was getting higher?? Its all very well selling the latest book or cd cheaper, but you pay for it as they simply add the cost onto more everyday items and you dont even notice because you think you've got a good deal on something else, which more often than not is something that you wouldn't have bought anyway.

I dont shop at tesco, I refuse to on principle. They have 5 branches with 5 miles of me. Thats 4 too many in my opinion.

Yes of course, tesco are an evil corporation. Soon there will be no other form of shop in the world, opening a shop in competition with tesco will be outlawed, and they'll steal our children to test things on them.

Get a grip kiddies. Tesco are doing well because they're following a good business model. They sell me 99 RON petrol and dirt cheap ginger nuts, so I'll keep going there. If they stop being the best place to go, I'll go somewhere else.

The competition is not all going to be forced out of existence. This isn't the matrix.

They set their prices ridiculously cheap to get hold of a majority of the market. Once all competition has gone they start to raise the prices.

I highly doubt it, if tesco do that then everybody would go to sainsburys. I can't see all of the big supermarkets suddenly increasing their prices loads.

Doubt as much as you want but its true. Why keep your prices low if theres no competition. Theres a term for this style of businessnig but I cant remember what its called.

There is competition though, all the other big supermarkets. Surely there are laws that will stop tesco monopolising the entire market.

Give it a few years and I wouldn't be surprised if theres not as big of a choice of super markets as there is now.

I shop in Tescos, because they sel absolute everything. Would never buy my electrical or clothes from there though.

I shop at sainsburys. Its probably a little dearer than tesco, but the foods far better and I can usually get what I want. When we used to go to tesco we couldn't get mushrooms for about 5 weeks on the trot.
Before that we wused to go to asda, but then they decided to go into competition with halfords and filled half the store with pushbikes and auto products, then squeezed all the food into the remaining space. If you stopped to look at something on the shelf a queue would form behind you within seconds as there wasn't room to pass.

Their bread is pretty shit and most of their other food is too rich, chocolate tastes neg, the only thing i really like is their sausage rolls.

Sainsburys iced buns or tesco dougnuts are the best though. Smile

Tesco's around here have it all, everything you need. Have never been missing what we need when we get there! If I want a DVD or two then its damn cheap. Being a youngun I cant really say that its good or bad as I just by the superficial stuff and have barely needed to shop elsewhere!

Used to work (and 99% shop) at a tesco extra.

Now am forced to shop in a grotty morrisons, but the prices are pretty identical.

When at tesco the two main things they bitched at us about was;

1) Sainsbury's was for 'teh w1n' about 5 years ago, they got stale, and tesco sneaked past as it 'evolves to meet demand' etc.

2) Asda is THE enemy. Evil. Ie, soon it will be a case of shop at tesco OR asda.

What worries me is, the whole 'BOGOF' culture is REALLY unhealthy and dangerous for the economy IMO.

Also, soon waitrose/marks + sparks will go bust, as the only people that shop there are the old cunts, and that generation /should/ be dead within 20 years. Mark my words, waitrose is well and truly dead already, and marks is losing more money then royal mail.

Thing is, Tesco is such a spineless empty company, ALOT of people would rather spend an extra 5-10% on say, electrical goods, and talk to someone who doesnt have biro all over their fucking hands (and thats usually management).

The answer 'do i look like i have a scooby doo about whether that exact model will work with the nondescript 10 yr old tv model you've stuttered at me?' may have been chucked at a couple of irate muppets questioning the 16 year old saturday that happened to be skiving in the general electrical dept. over the 18 months or so.

And i often had to explain things to management -mainly for smug one up manship- such as ps2's, shipping orders/deficits etc.

Plus a faceless corporation, however nicely they dress it up, and however much they attempt to get /good/ security will ALWAYS lose vast quantities of stock to;
- irate and bored youths basically killing time before uni whilst at college
-kids who fucked up everything and are letting life drift by as they make plans
-complete cretin

(they are the ONLY three groups by the way, dont kid yourself)

Stock loss is caused by a sloppy job, theft or sheer bored/vengeful vandalism. This will always occur because it works out more economical to emply 16 yr olds you can pay 4 quid an hour then pay more to get better staff. Jesus look at night shift staff Shocked

I remember around easter we would lose about 2 grands worth of stock just from us eating/smashing them...

In a local corner/convenience shop, that tends not to happen. You cant get away with it.

Also, in tesco, you seriously cannot get fired if you have a modicom of intelligence.
My dad hire/fires people on a weekly basis, for being late twice, for bitching etc. He works in a publishing company in london, and is finance director. Yes he may get sued occasionally, but he usually wins. And the company functions well (if somewhat under a cover of fear).
Whereas in tesco, i used to swear at customers routinely, come in stoned, never made ANY effort with uniform, and even had the nickname 'the wanderer' by management within a month of my 18 month stay. Not to mention all kinds of shite you can imagine.
Hell i even got caught smoking pot in the loading area, while on shift, and all i got was a written warning that ONLY affected smoking related incidents.

(Just as a point, if your wondering about the ramble, may be because of various substances the last few days Laughing)

Basically my point is, about the only way to get fired from tesco is to APPEAR racist. A company that operates like this is going to always employ cunts. These cunts will continue to rule, take up management (management shuffling is ridiculous in tesco corp may i add) and manage ineptly. Soon this style of business will not be able to economically support itself.

And as i say, with all this against it, who cares about an extra 5-10% on on cost of goods to get better service.
Its if better service cannot be obtained that you are fucked.
