2 Year Wait Vs. Direct Access

hey guys i'm new here. i'm 19 (20 in april) and i was wondering if you gus would share your thoughts on the best way to obtain a full lisence. do you think its better to do the licence and wait 2 years or wait just over a year and do a direct access course?

i wanna get out on the road as soon as i can, and i've seen direct access courses can cost as much as £400, but i'm not exactly rich and i'm REALLY impatient and wanna wait the least possible time.....

hence my dilema. what do you guys think?

if i were end up being restriced to a 125 for 2 years i'd get either a tzr or an nsr.

You wont be restricted to a 125 for 2 years, you can get any bike you like restricted to 33bhp once you've passed your test.

I'd just do it now. There's talk of the test getting harder, you're impatient... why wait?

Do your restricted license and ride whatever bike you like.

Just to reitterate: You wont be restricted to a 125 @ 19 years of age. You can ride anything you like, so long as it's restricted to 33bhp (on paper Twisted Evil )

If you wait to do DAS, you'll be restricted to the 125 for just over a year (with L plates). If you do your A2 test now, you can ride any bike you want - restricted to 33bhp for 2 years.

If it was a matter of only 2/3 months, I'd say wait and do DAS. But it's over a year - so my vote has to be to go do your A2 test now. Especially as you're really impatient. You can always do the accelerated access test (another £55 quid) in just over a year to get rid of the restrictors without having to wait the full 2 years.

Good luck either way. Get your theory booked and CBT done if you haven't already as you're going to need it whatever route you take and it's valid for 2 years.

It'll cost you around that much if you do a fully taught course from scratch.

There's nothing stopping you from doing a CBT (under £100... whatever you do, you will not get around this) and getting a 125 for a while to get the hang of things.

Then, once you're confident, do one or two lessons to iron out bad habits and do your restricted test: You can use a CBT-legal 125 for this (provided it is "capable of exceeding 100km/h (62.5mph), so you won't have to hire a bike and you can ride it to and from the test centre on your CBT, so there's no need to hire an instructor for the actual test, either. You will, however, need to have passed your theory test for this (~£23). The test itself is £55. If you pass, you are restricted by power, not engine capacity: whatever you ride must not have more than 33bhp (either "naturally", or via a restrictor kit), so you pick any bike you like.

By the time you hit 21 you should have a good idea of whether you can wait out the remaining time until automatic derestriction or whether you want more immediately. In case of the former, just wait and throw away the restrictors after the two years (if you haven't already by then). In case of the latter, all you have to do is pass an accelerated access test. This costs another £55, plus you will have to hire a bike (the test bike must have at least 46.6 bhp (35 kW)) as well as an instructor to get the bike to and from the test centre.

cheers for all your input dudes!

im gonna get it done now. did a few theory test on the net for some praccy at that n i got a 24, 26 & 34, without any prior study so a bit of work to do there to nail the max marks....

but thanks for the advice and input anyway dudes
