You may have the ability to pass but you need to know all the procedures also, the format of the test, what is expected of you etc etc.
I played an instructor at pool in last weeks league match and he was telling me things people fail for commonly. Some of them were stupid, like doing a U turn and coming to a stop with their left foot on the curb. Putting the wrong foot down at junctions. Doing life savers until their head nearly falls off. Might be worth looking for some kind of literature that will outline the correct way to do things, the trouble being that the 'correct way' according to the DVLA is not always the best way in my opinion. Im sure a lot of people will agree riding a foot from the curb is ridiculous and unsafe, but your tought this and then go out and ride in the real world. It took me ages to just get that hammered into me as I was riding a foot from the white line in the middle of the road.

Get at least one lesson in. It's not to do with your abilities, it's little technicalities that you need to know for the test. ____________________ Northern Irish? www.nibikers.com |

I did no official training after my cbt and had about the same amount of experience as you. I looked at it like this:
Test = £50 (ish)
3 tests = £150
1 days training = £100
1 test = £50
Total = £150
I practiced around where I was going to do my test on the weekends before and spent all my time on the bike practicing everything to the tee....
I passed second time round therefore.... saving at least £50!!
I got my dad and a mate of mine to help me practice, the second time round I did it all myself.
And I got to do it all on my own bike (NSR), I Think thats an achievement in the end... they don't exactly have the best turning circles do they?! I had to have my hand held right against the tank.
Must admit, it was nice to get home and jump on the R6 though
