Hi

I have seen the following gsxr750 (2nd one down):

https://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WWW/bikes_search.asp?nU=0&make=SUZUKI&model=GSXR&ccappr=&min_pr=75&postcode=BH8%208JN&miles=40&max_records=50&modelexact=1&photo=1

Do you think it looks ok as a first big bike or do you think its too much of a jump from a 125?

Also is 21k miles alot for a bike?
Do you think its overpriced?

Thanks

it only goes as fast as what you make it, same with every other bike, how tall are you and if you could move it around easily enough. if your going to be ragging it everywhere a 600 is just a dangerous. just my Penny Coin

It will be a hell of a jump from a 125. Insurance will kill you.

Tbh, it's not a great 1st bike.

Nice, but not ideal.

21k is not high milage no.

21k not alot of miles really but the next one down with 9k on clock is far better buy.
£600 more but if get it down to£2k then well worth it.
IF YOU BUY A 96 ONWARDS & ITS YOUR FIRST BIKE TAKE IT EASY & GET DAMPER FITTED Shocked (may have one on them as standard but non-adjustable one does slow steering considerably)
Very lively over cats eyes & bad roads without damper.
Change rear to a 180.
A cbr6 is a lot easier to ride fast & as a first bike hold value far better.(better as a first bike all round in my opinion)
Thats my 2bobs worth anyway Very Happy
Enjoy what ever you get mate, the summers a comin mama

Any bike is dangerous in the wrong hands.

many people are killed / injured on peds and just the same on big machines.

I started out with a 1000cc Kawasaki ZX10b as my 1st bike so i think you should know your own limits and judge for yourself if its right or wrong.

Good luck, ride safe. Mr. Green

Thats good about the mileage as I wasn't sure.

My insurance will be £410 as I have nearly 2 years ncb's as I had a scooter Embarassed and my current 125 (i'm 24 if that makes any difference) Laughing so insurance isn't really an issue.

tbh I probably will go for one. I'm pretty sensible with things and I know my limits.

I had a 95 GSXR750 (More or less the same as the 94) and it's a good bike, easy to handle and well built. 21,000miles is nothing for that engine, they are bullet proof.

They do have steering dampers fitted as standard and I never once had any problems with it shaking it's head.

It will probably be slower than a current 600 in terms to acceleration/handling/topend etc

I went from a 125 to Honda CBR 600FY and i love the bike. My insurance was not much different compared to my first year on a 125. About 500 FPFT and after my first year on the 125 it dropped to 250ish, hoping the CBR does the same. TBH i got myslelf into a lot more trouble on my 125 than i have done on my CBR.

i got a cbr600f, had my licence almost a week now and its fantastic, if you can handle the weight of the bike stationary then youll have no probs as long as you dont give it any stick.
i had a sit on a new gsxr and i felt unsteady, the cbr was a bit lower so ideal for me.

As long as you're careful (I don't use the word "sensible" because that doesn't encompass accidents or lack of experience) then you may be okay powerwise.

Biggest thing I'd worry about going from a 125 would be the jump in weight. The GSX-R750s were kind of lardy (at 198kgs) around that period. At 112bhp with that weight, it'll be no more of a handful than a newer 600cc sportsbike.

Not yet mate I have my das training next week and the test 13th March. Its a bit of a gap but they are fully booked but I might be able to get another days training in beforehand.

I'm just looking for my next bike now as I think its quite a good time to buy

I'd say that if you are a sensible rider, who is aware of his shortcomings, you could cope coming from a 125.

The GSXR750WN is a serious bike, it handles well and is quite pokey.

High speed handling will be a galaxy apart from most 125s bar possibly a RS125 or Mito 125, but youll find it horribly ponderous at low speeds-it would be almost impossible to pass a test on it as the steering lock is very poor. Its also a bit heavier than a more modern 600/750, about the same as a bandit 1200. When you get bored you can fit the GSXR1100W engine in there and hey presto 150 horsepower.

Get the GSXR, the CBR600 is the lukewarm horlicks of the sportsbike world! Old suzukis have real character and we have a great forum www.oldskoolsuzuki.info to back us up.

I may be slightly biased ( I ride a 1986 GSXR1100G).....
