everybody seems to get really concerned for the welfare of their bike during the winter months. just wondering why that is? obviously theres a higher chance of dropping it with the extremely low road temperatures and probable icing, but just wondering if there were other reasons too that i don't know about?

all the muck and salt tht they spread over the roads, the bike will get caked in it, the wheels, forks, exhaust everyhting on the lower half of the bike caked in the stuff, eating away at chrome, chains etc etc, not always possible to clean the bike off as often as one would like over winter

Given the choice between ice on the road and wiping the bike down regularly...

There was a warning about the current type of salt they use, though. Apparently it contained something to make it stick to the road better, but a side effect of that was that it also made things slippery.
