Hi

I have my test soon and have been reading other peoples posts. I noticed a few people were asked questions before the test. What sort of questions do they ask? and what happens if you get them wrong Question

As you can tell i'm fairly nervous already, i'm just trying to prepare myself Thumbs Up

I thought the whole point of the theory was to be asked questions etc Question

They ask you some basic questions about the bike before you set off, e.g. where do you put the oil in? How does the horn work? Your instructor should have gone over this for you before the test day too.

If you search there is a link on this site somewhere that tells you all the pillion and 'show me' and 'tell me' questions that they could ask.

nothing to worry about, like they say your instructor will deal with this, but basically tyre tread depth, pillion passengers, brake fluid, oil levels and kill switch.
Its just to show that you know how a bike works mechanically.

It's not multiple choice and you have to answer the questions using your bike as an example, rather than just give a generic answer, so it's a bit different to the theory test. (E.g. if they ask you "How would you check the oil level?" you'll have to show them where your dip stick or whatever is and how you would go about checking it).

It's just another hoop to jump through, really, and only counts as one minor if you don't get it right.

They will ask one show me question, and one tell me question. At the end, they will ask you one question about carrying pillion. It's not like a spoken exam, they just want to know that you are prepared for riding by yourself (tread limits, carrying passengers etc.)

The questions at the end were the most difficult part for me because after all that concentration I was totally zoned out, its a good thing they are easy questions! He asked me what I would have to consider when I was acrryong a pillion, I answered

Maybe put more air in tyres

yes....

High speed weave?

yes...

Different handling?

yes... Starts to lift his arm up at the elbow....

Oh yeah and wheelies!

laughs.

Seemed like a nice guy!

i wouldn't worry mate. if you've passed your theory test then you will already know the answers anyway. they're just basic road safety questions, it'll be cool.

best of luck, let us know how you do Thumbs Up

Did my DAS last year (passed 1st time BTW Wink ), and as I remember it the questions I had...

- Before the practical part of the test
SHOW ME how you'd check proper operation of your brake lights using front and rear brake
TELL ME how you'd check the engine oil level

- After the ride, TELL ME what changes you'd need to make to the bike before carrying a pillion, and how these changes would affect your riding.

Pretty basic stuff as you've already done the theory, but as already mentioned your instructor will have been thru these standard questions with you before the big day?!

GOOD LUCK!! Thumbs Up
