Right,
Are these cars any good in the vtr/vts trim ? Or would I be better of just buying the saxo vtr/vts ?
Or even a 206 of some kind ?

French cars are a little thin on the body front. Citroen have a legacy for it. Piss poor wafer thin body panels are not what you need in a small fast car. The C2 is far better than the saxo for this because the earlier saxos unless looked after are on their way out. The 106 was a great car (and many still are) but a couple of mates found that at about 75,000 miles they nosedived and started to fall to bits
The audis are good but pricey, and as for BMW you get a good car for far more money than you would often pay for a good car from a different manufacturer, although if you play your cards right the BM will last for many more miles. Go any lower than a 2.0 and its like pulling a caravan, especially if you have a lot of luxury kit in that BM.
If I was to choose between the citroen and the 206 I wuld lean towards the peugeot. Dont know why though ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |

My car was well looked after, one lady south african owner who had never touched the redline, i soon sorted that and since then it keeps breaking.
My sister is going to look at a 206 tomorrow with my dad for her first car. Looks alot more solid than what mine does. |

Thats a shame mark, I always think back to the citroen AX GT days when that sardine can with a 1.4 could do 0-60 in 9 secs!
I remember the 106GTI being like 3/4's of a sec slower than the saxo VTS despite both having the same engine and thinking why is the citroen so much faster? Has to be the weight saving from using kitkat wrappers instead of steel. ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |

McGee - Do they actually sell small french cars like that over the US. Cause I've never seen one, plus I think something that small wouldn't appeal to many Yanks cause they like big cars... just a thought |

The french gearboxes used by Lotus for the Esprit (citroen, the later renault)?
the Citroen/Peugeot and Ford joint venture to develop common rail diesel engine engine technoligy that most new diesel cars use?
that'll be the french cars that consistently come top in ENCAP safety tests (renault)? that'll be 44% of Nissan as well then, since that's the share that Renault owns.
That'll be a significant number of all electrical components in european cars, since they are made by Valeo the french automotive components manufacturer?
will also include the Toyota AyGo as it's made in the factory in korea that is jointly owned with Peugeot Citroen and churns out mainly the 107 and C1
not to mention all the Vauxhall commercial vehicles made in Luton, since that's another joint venture with renault.
there's no such thing as a "french" car anymore.. nor a "japanese" car or an "American" car... they all make cars for each other, and have shares in each other's companies.. and also share components, chassis and running gear between them all... much of the perception is historical and emotional in basis, and not on fact.
eg the new subaru impreza is using the front end from the new Saab
Mitsubishi, Peugeot and Citroen are jointly building a new 4x4
the subaru justy and the old suzuki swift were the same chassis and bodywork, but with different running gear
the mazda 121 was a rebadged ford fiesta.
I've owned nothing but Citroens, from my first 2cv, thru 2 BXs, and i'm on my second Xantia. I'm looking to buy a Xsara VTS this year. None have had any problems, and although an N reg, and tatty, the xantia hasn't a spot of rust on it, and is still going very well despite not having a service in 40,000 miles.
