I'm hoping to do my test when i am 17. Well, i'm 17 in july but was thinking of doing it around september time. At the moment i'm riding a geared 50cc race rep (Peugeot XR6) and i don't want to get a 125cc because i think it will be a waste of money. I am hoping to hire a 125cc to do 3-5 lesssons on and then do the test on it. Roughly how much am i looking at do this if i just hire the bike for the duration of the lesson and then just to do the test on?

I'd still think it would be in the £400-500 range for a full 5 days & test with hire.

I've found a place nearby that does 2hr lessons for £55. Don't know if that includes bike hire, i doubt it does. If i had a few lessons to make sure i'm ready then did the test i could be looking at about £200? I dont really want to do a full 5 day course style thing. What you think?

you're much less likely to pass the test with less lessons, considering the small amount of riding experience that you have, I'm fairly sure.

Get enough lessons until your instructer says you're ready for the test. There's no point taking one if you're not prepared.

Remember with a 125 your riding with more than double the engine size your used to, gears, heavier and faster bike. So you'll need to get used to it.

Not saying 'you wont be good enough' cause thats up to you, but you need some time before your comfortable on a bike enough to ride tidyily. Plus having taught yourself you might have bad habits etc.

This is what i plan to do, i'm turning 17 soon and i plan to take my test then restrict a Suzuki Bandit 600S for the two year restricted period.
Only moving straight onto a 600 as i plan to ride it for years to come, if i didn't i would have bought a smaller 250 or something similar.

I was just saying about this in another thread, I did my test straight from a 50cc (geared). I did the 3 day one and past 1st time (this was in october last year). You will get used to the extra power (its a CG125...) pretty quickly. All I would say is go there with an open mind and listen to every little detail they tell you and act upon it. If you do then you'll have very few problems

And btw my test course cost me £350 which included the actually test fee.

this link may be of some use to you https://www.begin-motorcycling.co.uk/centres.htm I went with Freedom Rider Training and I would recommend them to anybody. Joe

a 125 a waste of money?
you can get them cheaper than 400cc etc, also insurance will be more on a 400 restricted or not.
Plus you will be paying a few hundred more on insurance when you will have the same power as a good 125 when the 400 is restricted.

Just letting you know Cool

Hey hey, its as cheap as chips up here.

on my CG125, a lesson was £15 for an hour using my own bike.

£20 an hour using their bikes.

-----

If your thinking of hiring a bike, why not buy a cg125, practice on that for a while and once you've passed sell it.

You can't realy loose, i even sold mine for £50 more than I paid for it.
