After beinbg off for a week its blindingly obvious there has been a major shift in BCF's prganisation. There seems to be a section now for every possible off shoot of conversation.
Now I might just be being dull, but I thought it was far clearer the old way without having a specific section for Gammamanuk's love life. Made it easier to browse. Any thoughts on this?

I think chopping the funnies section makes it harder to post funnies.
Is it also more Admin work moving stuff posted in the 'wrong' section - so many choices - can't decide where to put stuff Shocked

P.S. shouldn't this be in Forum Feedback and Help section Wink

That bit is true. Although he is refraining from posting till his karma gets better. Before offtopic was a big section where you have some decent threads and some 'omg I'm in love' So with this new layout it is easier to avoid the saps that have nothing to do with bikes at all and it has also made me search the actual bike forums alot more, and I post more in there too.

I think it's good.

Also I have noticed lots more old threads are being dug up and also more threads are having to be moved from section to section, as this one will be shortly.

I don't like how the photos and videos section is gone but when you think about it, it's not. If they are your photos or videos, then they go in Show and Tell where you want to show them off. If you just randomly found them on the 'net, then I think there is a section for that somewhere too. Thinking

I think since the chop the quality of the threads has improved tenfold.

It depends on what way you look at it.

I generally used this as a social forum so having all the posts split up so much really makes it difficult to pop onto the board and see what's going on. It's a real pain to keep looking at each different section so it means I will generally use the board much less and will probably miss posts that would otherwise interest me.

If the forum if moving towards a complete bike-specific forum then I guess splitting it all up makes it easier to designate certain type of questions to the right area.

Unfortunatly, the big plus point of this forum rather than all the others is that it was much more social and that is what I liked about it so I see the split as a real disadvantage. If I really want specific questions answered about my bike then I would go to a different forum but still use this one for general bike chat.

Shame... but I guess everything changes.. sometimes not for the better though Crying or Very sad

Remember you can click 'view all topics in this section' or whatever it is, and get the basis of the old 'general bike chat' and 'offtopic chat'.

Old habits die hard though. I am using this function a lot more, but going bacvk after you've posted means you have to go back 3 or 4 pages, and I always click 'Show and Tell' or whatever forum the post was in, automatically. It's an infuriating quirk!

I will agree though that this change has brought about some much better quality posts, and has shifted it from being Offtopic-centric to being more Bike-centric. Not that Offtopic has gone, it's just less prominent than before. Which should keep idiots like gammamanuk from telling us every detail or their sordid lives.

I always use the global 'show all', or if I'm finding stuff I've posted in 'show my posts' (or whatever it is Smile ).

Trouble is, if I'm not in the mood for bikey stuff I'll just mooch around in Offtopic or E+M, so that goes out the window.

There are definitely some great advantages to the new layout, but it's all to be taken with a pinch of salt I think; it ain't perfik.

I just wish you could exclude 'found on the net' from 'view all, cos I don't want to read that forum - twas easier to ignore before.

I also wish people would read the 'before you post' sticky in Show & Tell - it's supposed to be epic tales, detailled projects, interesting reads, not a couple of snaps and one sentence.

Pray tell, where would you put them? Not everything warrants 6 pages of dialogue, but might still warrant a post. Smile

General bike chat, if it doesn't fit in anything else and is about bikes, I would presume.

The trouble with all the new sections is that it's possible to have a post that could go in several different places. I can't wait for the karma bitching to start once people see loads of their posts moved! Laughing

A good solution might be to cut down the off topic sections but leave the bike chat sections divided up. The 'off topic' sections were really just social areas with no real need to be divided up and as pointed out there is many topics which can easily fit in multiple categories!

Use the offtopic 'view all topics' and that's exactly what you get. Smile

I still think it was a good move by Korn, shows good parenting skills i.e. if the kids are fighting a lot (old off topic section) then simply separate them. The good old fashioned distraction and redirection technique!

There does seem to by much less pointless arguments this last week or so...

I've have a thread moved even though I had taken the time to post it in, what I thought, was the right forum. This doesn't bother me, the point of each section will also become clearer over time and, more importantly, I've got more important things to worry about than a moved post.

Keep up the good work! Thumbs Up

Old Thread Alert!

The last post was made 19 years, 341 days ago. Instead of replying here, would creating a new thread be more useful?
