A few months ago i had a problem with my GSXR 600 K4, i took it to the dealer and it turned out that i had lost compression in 1 cylinder and they had to replace one of the shims. the bike has about 7600 miles on it and i dont rag the a*se out of it and nor has it been on a track. it also gets serviced on time.
The problem has returned, anyone have any ideas what could be causing it?

1) Cyclinder head gasket ... you'd see frothy looking crap in your coolant.

2) A sticking/pitted/burned valve.

3) Piston rings/bore knackered ... take the plugs out and attach a compression gauge then crank the engine over noting the reading ... take pressure gauge out and put a teaspoonful of oil down the plug hole and reattach the gauge ... crank over again ... if the pressure suddenly goes up then it's probably this.

Hope this is of some help ... check your manual for the test procedure for 3) but it should be along the lines of what I've described.

From what you have said it sounds like a valve has burnt out, if it was ok after a shim change..

the bike felt great after it was fixed the 1st time, but the past week or so it feels and sounds like it was before.

problem 1st time wrote:
took the bike to West Coast Suzuki over in Irvine this morning and i told them what was happening with it and i said to them about the oil level viewer having condensation in it. they said that in 10years they've never had to replace a headgasket in a jap inline 4 bike, he said they are bulliet proof, so it was unlikly to be that.
The mechanic then had a sniff at the fuel in the tank and said it smells like the fuel is contaminated, so i left to him to get on with it and the estimated cost was about £100 for flushing the tank and new plugs.

At 3pm i phone up to see if the job is done and ready for me to come collect the bike, the mechanic dealing with my bike comes on the phone and tells me their is a bigger problem. he said you've lost compression in one of the cylinders, one of the injectors is fooked, the valve clearences need to be set and that involves taking out the cams, he also said something about shims but by that point all i was thinking about was how much this would all cost Confused cost......................?????????
he said about another £300

the cutting out is a new thing, as you can hear it stays running for a bit but it cuts out after the choke closes automatically. i dare say if i increased the idle a bit more it would keep running

B) Your combustion chamber is full of nails
