Earlier today i got a nasty knock on my exhaust manifold. on my 2stroke blaster 50. why is too embarrasing to say. but basically. the engine is now louder. and it sounds like i have put a hole in it. but no smoke blows through where it shouldnt, no air being emitted, nothing. but it sounds different. apart from that no loss of power. same performance. what do i do? I shortly am scheduled to ride it. but should I? i rode it about 4-6 miles with no problems home after the incedent.
i cannot see damage. i cannot feel damage. i CAN hear damage. will this be serious enough to prevent me from riding for tonight and tomorrow before i am free to get it looked at?

any help much appreciated

thanks, soul. Shocked

sounds like when you have whacked your exhaust , you may have sheared the studs from the Cylinder head a little bit and the exhaust manifold is blowing a little bit.. only a suggestion but not knowing the full story Confused

Ride it into a swimming pool or pond and see if any bubbles come out along the exhaust anywhere. If they do then you've found your hole Thumbs Up

I have had a thourough look at it just now outside using my neighbors floodlight and my neighbor to hold it up on the back wheel.

There is a LOT of flaky rust there at the very beginning of the pipe. and a dent. the surface i hit was a horizontal peice of thin metal. held strong. so stopped me dead. to shed light on my intense stupidity. I thought it would be an excellent idea to wheelie over to a halfpipe. and rest my front wheel on it so i could reach my gloves that were being held in outstretch arms from the top of the pipe. and then bang. basically the pipe. went into the side girder of the half pipe. I looked such a twat, and I deserved it completely Laughing

there is no blowing as far as i can feel in the freezing cold with a warm engine. just the sound change. which i don't mind as long as i am not deteriorating my engine more than the norm.

I really don't want it to be a new-exhaust job. the particular "snake byte" zaust on my ped (the stock pipe) costs £300. and henceforth a royal piss take.

If anyone has an old system that they are not using and are willing to let me have/buy i would be most grateful. Thumbs Up

(I will only need this if further analysis shows that it is irreperably blowing.)

Even if it is blowing, how much does it need to be blowing before it brings new meaning to the term running lean. and i lose enough backpressure to damage my engine?

Thanks v much for all your comments. Thumbs Up Laughing

I am going to continue to ride it at present. As i can detect no hole. I think it may well be as Siggi suggested. Thankyou all. Case Closed.

Soul, Thumbs Up

If there is a hole or its blowing you will be running lean and stand a good chance of siezing the engine. Get it sorted. As crimanalD says, to check if its blowing from anywhere, get the bike running and leave it on the stand idling. Block off the end of the pipe with your glove or something like that and the bike should stall if there is no leak.

Or you could just take the pipe off and check it. Good excuse to give it a steel brush and then spray it with VHT paint at the same time.
