good begginner bikes

i was wondering if anyone could reccomend a good bike for me to get with a small amount of money (under £1000), i only need to use it until i get my catergory A license but i'm only 17 so was wondering whether would be better to get a Honda CBR125 and use that until my 2 year restricted period is up. thanks

i bought a 6 month old '04 reg kymco pulsar 125 in september '04 and rode it for a year.

great to learn on and cheap as hell to run/maintain.

I'm going to be putting my Honda CLR 125 (City Fly) for sale soon as i'm doing my DAS it will be up for £900.
Its in very good condition, only done 9500 miles, 1999 (V reg). Its a great bike to learn on and is cheap to insure.

If you mean taking the A2 test when your 17 (restricts you to 33bhp) i dont beleive you would keep it as it only makes about 14bhp.

I think its also unlikely that you will find a CBR125 for less that a grand, probably looking more towards a CG or others mentioned.

Or you could jus get your test over and done with

so if i got a CBR 600 and stuck a restrictor on it could i use that untill my two year period was up? and then remove the restrictor.

the best L bike i have ever rode is a Honda Shadow VT125.

great bike to learn on and if you remove the 3 bolts that hold the baffle in it grunts like a real v-twin should.

but dont ever go for anything like the rs125 cos you'll spend more time fixing it than riding it

and i did m test on my vt125 low insurance too

If you just want a stop-gap to ride now before you do your test, I would get something cheap like a CG125 or one of the wee air cooled 100cc bikes (eg H100, RSX100, KH100). Once you have done your test, you will probably want to move onto something a bit bigger.

You should get a decent runner for £3-500. A small bike like that at that price doesn't depreciate much providing you don't knacker it as there is a constant demand for them and a high turnover. A running, learner legal bike with an MOT is unlikely to ever drop below £300. When you pass your test you can decide if you either want to sell it on or keep it as a spare bike.

Agree with Stinkwheel, get an old air-cooled 2 stroke. Payed under £300 for mine which has done the job.

Theyre also considerably faster at accelerating than 4 stroke 125's. Surprisingly quick, especially with the brake's on my GP125 which make's for interesting moments.

Rite i have decided to go for a small bike first like a GS125 or a CG125 while im doing my tests and then i'll switch to a faster bike and restrict it, i like the look of those Honda CB600F hornets or a CBR600 anyway thanks for the help!
