Just thought I'd share this with you!

I like to think I am reasonably intelligent, can follow instructions and am capable of filling out an official form. Obviously when one has four children, it is challenging, time consuming and a little tedious, however as my family is going away, and their passports would expire whilst we are away, it is a necessity. A few weeks ago we duly picked up the necessary forms from the Post Office and last week I spent the best part of two hours filling them out. Today my wife went to the Post Office to take advantage of the service that assists in processing the forms only for her to be told they had been filled out incorrectly! She, (as I am sure you can imagine), having spent the best part of an hour in the post office, was not best pleased with me and phoned me in the office to berate me and my incompetence at not following the instructions. I swore blind to her that I had filled it in correctly and I was convinced I had. I was also daunted at the task of filling the forms in again correctly!!

On my return home my wife showed me where I had made my mistake. I had kept the original instructions and showed her that indeed I had NOT made a mistake, but that the instructions had changed from my original instructions (only picked up four weeks ago), to the ones picked up today. (The original Passport Guide was blue, the later one was Brown). The section in question that should not have been filled was Question/Section 4, as instructed in the Blue form, but no longer required in the latter instructions. However, when you read the instructions on the actual application form, they insist you fill in Question/Section 4. Having taken advice from the Post Office AND The Passport Office (at more expense) we have NOT filled in the section.

Please could you ask your ministerial colleague to ensure that in future when revising rules on Passport Applications, that he removes all the old stock from everywhere, and perhaps look at the wording pertaining to question/section 4 and maybe change it!

Finally if you find any ambiguities in my letter then now you know how I feel following the instructions on the passport application!

As my MP is frightened to offend anyone inside his party, I will get some reply from the head of adminsitration at the Passport Office rather than the Home Secretary, or Minister in charge of the Passport. As far as I am concerned he should earn his £90,000 a year plus £150k in expenses, he really is an annoying sh*t!

just had to fill one of them forms out. what a joke, i got stressed an got my dad todo it, even then they sent it back because the picture was to far away or some shite like that,

also the whole getting a person of social standing to sign it,, whats makes a teacher (profestional perons) any better than you or i , pissed me off.

i used to help a milkman /part time fireman. that was my easy way out

You come across as a bit of whinging annoyance from that imho.

The problem is with your Post-Office for not correctly changing the guidance literature, this obviously assume's they had it in the first place. I'd be making a formal complaint to them personally.

Having said that any way in which you can piss off an MP is a good thing.

How astute!! That's the bloody point of it!! Rolling Eyes It may well be the PO but who cares? Anything that involves officialdom gets right up my nose, especially when something happens and they are at fault!

BTW he's obliged to reply in three weeks - looking forward to this one! Shocked

I sent an email to my mp complaining about the the lack of NHS dentists in my area and as of yet he's not bothered replying to me.
I doubt he'll read this message either, but if by chance he does, or anyone knows him

Well done on the letter - if hasn't replied in 6 weeks then write him another letter/email and copy it to the local paper....you'll get a reply!!
