just wanted to know what you thought about this.....

I went out with an old school buddie a few weeks back, he is a good bloke we have a lot in common and have been friends for about 10 years, he’s into his tunes like me, albeit dance and shi* which I don’t really like, but nevertheless I went out with him to a club I don’t particularly like either because its full of chavs, students who think they are gods and other public parasites. Rolling Eyes
He said he was going to bring a mate, now I don’t see this guy a lot and his mates change like the weather, from past experienced his acquaintances seem ok so I wasn’t fused.
We got in the club and met his mate, a tall bloke, seems a bit simple I thought so conversation was limited, they both dropped some E and had a bit of a boogie on the bit just off the dance floor, I started chatting to his other mates who were sober. Left the club and walked home, no probs.
Anyways I was out with my girlfriend and got roped into going to this club again, whilst in there I saw the tall chap that my mate brought along last time, he was with some other familiar faces but I didn’t go chat to him.
Now not boasting here but this is the reason for the post, I know a lot of people in my town, mostly due to the music scene around here and generally what ties in with that.
I got out of the club my and the lady arm in arm, walk down the alley to the street where it sounds like some trouble brewing, get round the corner to see a group of chav’s beating the crap out of some people, of all people its seems that lanky lad gets caught up and I witness his head kick against the glass shop window and some other random hits flying.
I look over to two lads and a girl standing, watching……great its some chavs I know.Rolling Eyes
I’m no chav at all but I have no problem with chavs who don’t start shit with me for no reason, this guy I know quite well and can talk to, I asked him what’s going on he explained this kid had it coming and all that, not really bothered.
I said my goodbye’s and walked home….
Questions then, the guy on the floor seems like an alright bloke, he hangs around with a good mate, I was thinking to myself, did I do the right thing, did I have to do anything at all?

Why not ask the lanky lad? Speak to your mate and I'm sure he'll be able to give you his phone number so you can see if he thinks you did the right thing by just being "not really bothered" and just going home.

At least the way you so genererously helped him means you can be confident that he'd do the same for you if he saw be kicked in by a load of chavs. Thumbs Up

Lol, Ste, thanks.

Unfortunately for the lad it had nothing to with me and I am not stupid enough to fight them off.
If you were thinking I should have tried breaking it up, his mates were doing that.
Also the lad who I spoke to had done me a few favours in the past.

You could have at least gone around the corner and called the police and paramedics.

Are you taking the piss?

How would you like being kicked in the head while people watched and did nothing?

Don't say it had nothing to do with you, been an excuse in to many places, great example Kitty genovese. Google for it.

I hope the next time someone walks on by it's not your head getting kicked in our your girlfriend being raped or maybe you lieing on the side of the road after an accident.

Think about it, you know the difference between right and wrong.

I vaguely remember Kitty Genovese, the prostitute that was murdered in an open public place?

Murder decades ago in the US. 30ish people heard or saw her die, no one even called the police.

Then they went back to sleep. Wonder if Killa slept well afterwards?

In the Kitty story, lots of people turned on their lights and had a good look out into the car-park. This disturbed the would-be murderer so he fled the scene. He returned later to finish her off once all the lights went out.

Everyone interviewed said they thought someone else would have rung the police.

A mate of a mate I would help.

A stranger? Dunno. He might have deserved it. For all I know he could be a rapist.

If you read the post I explained that he had his own mates helping and most probably calling for police/paramedics, perhaps a better response would have been “How many mates did he have with him?” the reply then could have led to a better answer, you wont scare me with comments like ‘How would you like it if your GF was being raped?’ Rolling Eyes I doubt anyone would bat an eyelid TBH, but what’s your point, what could I do about that?

This guy had made a scene with the chavs and was being a bit mouthy so they proceeded with a swift kicking.
If I saw anyone raping a girl I’m sure I would do something, it would feel like my duty, or at least kick him in a bit while calling the police.
If someone is getting a kick in, and has more than enough people helping out, just because I know ‘of’ him doesn’t mean I need to get involved. I didn’t think there was a need for a hero, keeping the peace with thugs IMO is a good thing.

Wait till they go swimming. You can catch up with them then! Wink

This sentence is confusing, you may want to clarify it:

I was responding to this, I was trying to explain that I doubt anyone would do much for her or me but in the scenario I was in I didn’t need to help out.

I'm sure the police and medical services wouldn't have been THAT bothered if they got 2 phonecalls.

I replied to your first post whee you didn't say this.

As long as people retain the attitude you have towards helping and being helped this sort of thing will continue. Vicious circle.

Only takes the one time to destroy a life.

As you don't think anyone would help you or your girlfriend try asking her how being raped just the once while people walk on by would bother her. I hope it never happens.

Incidently I'm not trying to scare you I'm turning the tables and putting you and your girlfriend in the position of the victim.

Now I could always put in a set of raised eyebrows but lets be honest here. You're seeking justification to your actions, you won't get any from me and it's starting to look like none from others.

I just realised what you've said.

There are millions of people in the world and people turn and look the other way all the time.

Just because its only happened once in your sight doesn't mean a thing.

You seem confused, I’ll try to explain, again…

Someone mentioned the story about a whore who got raped and people didn’t do fuck all about it, a common thing to happen, like the woman dieing in the street in London and CCTV picked up at least 10 cars driving around her.
From this I can only assume that people wouldn’t do fuck all for me or my GF if in trouble, I was being sarcastic when I said ‘assuming its only the first time’ because in the past I have helped a few people out of a ruck just by going in and saying a few things.
This has nothing to do with me caring about what happened to this bloke, I’ve established I just walked away, I don’t know the bloke he had mates with himm, I was putting it across to the forum to see the replies.
I guess, in away, to see reactions of members and see what bullshit would come out of it. Laughing

Related quote from a class film:

Quote:
Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil, which we must fear most. And that is... the indifference of good men.

You shouldn't have left the guy to take a beating, it's pathetic.

your own comment was that his mates were there, and you assumed they would have phoned the police, so you didn't have to. it's the same assumption that led to the prostitute's death, not that they Didn't care.. they just assumed someone else would do it. They maybe didn't care enough.

just like you, you didn't care enough to make SURE the police and medical services were contacted, you just assumed someone else would do it for you.

Was the 'lanky lad' called peter crouch?

If so then he did indeed have it coming. Thumbs Up (OK he has scored now I suppose)

I think you did the right thing not to get involved. Not much you could have done apart from check he's ok afterwards.
There's usually no way of stopping a mindless fight when there is no other motive other than violence.

I've always thought this about people going out purely for a fight, they may well be beating the shit out of someone they may otherwise be good friends with if they knew them.

Like call the police or Ambulance

Maybe not but calling the police may stop it happening again to some poor innocent person.
