TZR50 or bike test?

I've just went into town in the snow on my scooter to get some money from the machine and to go shopping. Turns out it was the wrong pin and my bike broke down outside the supermarket but you should hear my other bike storys . Anyway more to the point, I was reading the latest TWO mag and it said some of the 125s go about 60-70 mph! My scooter does something like 58 on a straight so I'm not sure if it's worth spending £1600 on a 125 to get a little more speed or to buy another 50cc (TZR50) and do the bike test to ride bigger bikes. Please help me out bikergang

How old are you?

If you are 17 there's absolutely no point in buying a 50cc motorcycle. You should go for a 125 which go at least 90mph in the 'sports' category, or do your test and ride anything upto 33bhp which is what I would recommend everytime. This means that your options are more open and you no longer need L plates and you can legally carry pillion.

But if you are 16 then I recommend buying a 50cc or waiting till you are 17 if there isn't long until you 17th birthday.

If you are 17 I'd probably be looking at getting your test out of the way, and get that two year clock ticking away.

I'm 16, but im talking about when I'm 17, I was thinking of the TZR because I could ride it now.

Stick with what you've got for now and go for your test as soon as you can after your 17. You'll be able to get a far better bike and enjoy it more that way rather than sticking to 50/125cc learner legal machines and riding on L-plates!

and as for 125's doing 70mph your looking at the wrong ones, TZR125, RS125, even DT125 can do 90+!

but defo reccomend test and getting a 400 restricted and moving up that way!

It's just, I think a 125 and a bike test would all be to expensive.

Even if you get your bike test but still get a 125, you can carry pillion and lose the L's insurance probably be a smidge cheaper as you have your Full UK license.


ORRRR just look at it as getting rid of your 2 year restriction time.

don't bother with a 125, get your test done and get a bigger bike restricted from the word go. waste of money buying a 125 for your test and then finding you want a bigger more powerful machine when you have your license.

plus, i don't think anyone actually checks if you got your bike restricted or not

Do you have a auto scoot? If it is then I would say wait till you are 17 buy a semi decent secondhand 125 (like a dt125) and get used to to gears and do your test after a few months. Then you could sell the 125 and hopefully you won't loose much money that way if any at all.

I went straight out and did my test at 17 but I had been riding a geared 50cc bike for a year before. Trust me, the 400 bandit is so much more fun than a 125 and you don't have to work them as hard. This is just my opinion though...

I'm still 16, and i plan to do exactly as was mentioned by 400bandit. Buy a decent 125 to practice on, and eventually take my test on. Then buy a 600 Bandit and restrict it to the 33bhp? limit. Just seems the logical thing to do to me really.

I wouldn't even bother with a 50. they're piss slow and are shit. Get your test done or buy a cheap 125 like i did. Tjeres alot of fun to be had on a 125 m,ate.
