Hi all
Want more power from my stoopid little bike, Rolling Eyes who doesnt?
I have done the following.
Fully debaffled micron (awaiting front pipes)
Modified airbox
Fitted softer diaphragm spring
Disconnected P.A.I.S (emission system will be completely removed shortly)
And a 16tooth sprocket for better top end.
Rejetted it.

Exhaust ports will be getting a good polishing before long (fecking weather) Also see what state exhaust header is in (keeps me happy till i can get my new one)
Im not to sure about inlet ports as they are meant to be rough to aid swirl but i might have a look see if there are any obvious lumps and bumps to get rid of.
No-one knows of a compatible CDI unit, if i want a crank shaft i have to get it made up from scratch, might reshape the valves a little tommorow depending on weather.
What else can I do to it? I know i desperatley need a bigger one but i have to do a license and i owe 3 more years finance on this one Crying or Very sad

Ditch the diesel engine for a 2-stroke. Or, see if you can find a 250cc single cylinder 2-stroke engine.

You will never really get any decent power from a 4T 125 motor.

Thumbs Up

It was suggested to drop a 2-stroke engine into it, but most obvious worry is expansion chamber of exhaust..........

Get your full license and get a loan to pay off the finance on your 125 so you can sell it. Thumbs Up

Insted of wasteing all your money doing daft things to get 0.5 bhp more why didnt you save up and pay of the finance earlier?

ive spent less than £200 on the bike.......If i try to pay it off early then it still means at least another 2 years on an incredibly slow bike.......I bought it to get my insurance down and gain some NCB but now im just totally sick of it.

Am I the only one that feels this thread a tad ironic from someone with such a username Smile.

Why not just spend the money on a 2stroke?

You can get an older ok one from around £500, a lot more go for a lot less money spent.

Or, you could spend your money doing your full licence.

Then sell the CBR, get a cheap bigger bike and write off the loan as lesson learnt.
This way you end up with the bigger bike you wanted, a full licence and probably not having lost any more money.

Ha ha ha Laughing

Yea thats probably the best thing to do G, thanks for the advice.....
No-One builds anything for these crappy machines! plenty to make them look nice but nothing in the performance area.
When i bought it i "assumed" there would be parts readily available to get it to a respectable speed.....

or save up the money and do your test!

Its about the worst possible engine you could have chosen to tune. It is a single cylinder 125. The gas flow in to and out of it is pretty much fixed.

As far as mechanical engineering and fluid dynamics go you cannot just get the power that you want from an engine by tuning it until it dies.

Otherwise why the hell would people make engines of bigger capacity, or with more cylinders or with more complex ignition and fuelling systems??

My reccomendation would be, sell the bike and buy something bigger.

You can alter the gas flow in and out a fair bit with some work, decent exhaust system and have it ported and valve work done along with a decent cam shaft should give you some reasonable gas-flow figures

Just a fuc*ing waste of time on such a small motor....

I mean i might give the ports a bit of a scrub to help it along a little but im hardly going to sit for two or three perfecting them on a dyno or a gas rig......The wanting to tune it part is mainly curiosity too, usually i sent all my engines off to have such work done (port grinding, cam shafts igniton timing etc) and just to the genereal mechanical side gearing, carbs, rejet etc etc.

Beware of fiddling and spending too much on that bike. You will not get the time and money back that you spend on it, in fact quite the reverse, mess with it too much and you will actually reduce its resale value.

People want to HAVE a bike with all the flash kit on it, they want to BUY a totally standard one.

[DAD MODE] (so feel free to mutter obscenities under your breath)
Many people would be delighted to be in the position of owning a relatively new and nice looking motorbike. My first bike was a Russian 2-stroke made to a 60 year old design, I was happy to have it and rode it everywhere, topped out at 55mph.

You don't NEED more power, nor are you entitled to it. To me, owning your first 125 is one of the joys of motorcycling, just ride the thing and enjoy it for what it is, learn to get the most out of it. The only thing that makes a bike fast is the rider.

You are in danger of loosing sight of the point of owning the bike, which is riding it. Sounds like it currently spends more time in bits than being ridden. I do a lot of fiddling about with my bikes, but I have more than one so I can afford to have one in bits while I use the others.

My advice, ride the bike, learn how to ride it, become as good a rider as you can. You have three months to finish paying it off, then you will be able to take your test. That'll put you in June, the start of the Summer. You will be able to sell the CBR, buy a bigger bike and let rip on the dry, grippy roads.

3 YEARS! Not months. Still good advice though cheers Stinkwheel

I think ill just fit a 14tooth front sprocket tommorow and give the chain a good clean, then at least it'll have a fair bit of torque, compared to now anyways.
As for bike value I do not plan to sell it but paint it pink and white and hand it to my G/F (she will drop it four or five times a week) This was planned to happen in June but it doesnt look very promising as i havnt done my test nor saved up for another bike

Also a very fair point aint it a great feeling when you take your bike on a test ride and find you've fixed it or picked a few hp to mess around on?

As everyone has said mate, it really is a pointless exercise trying to get a noticeable performance gain from a CBR125 (or anything with a similar engine).

How much is that bike worth? Why not sell that and buy an older RS/NSR that you can do some tuning work on, any money left over use to pay off the finance and then pay the rest off over the loan period.

Think you only really have two options here mate, get rid of that and get a 2T 125, or stick with it for the 3 years and then sell it on when your done with it.

Of course you can, but on a 125 4T, you will see almost no gain what so ever. To the point where there is no point in doing it.

Confused

I don't know. If you bumped the compression a wee bit (not too much now, you can only put unleaded in it remember) and managed to find a hotter cam from somewhere, you could make a serious difference.

I know older hondas were often detuned by fitting a softer cam. They did it with the CB250K1 and they did it with the CB125T, both of which were absolute flying machines in their day. The models that followed these revved to 1000rpm lower and were distinctly sluggish in comparison.

The CB125T in-particular was a pretty hot motorcycle. 4-stroke twin with 16bhp and a genuine 85mph. That was in 1977. The 1978 T2 on the other hand had 12bhp and just about wheezed its way up to 70mph after a long fight. The only significant mechanical difference between the two was the choke diameter and camshaft profile for a 33% difference in power output.

Of course, getting someone to make or reprofile a cam for it would be tricky and expensive, what I said about riding it rather than dismantling it still stands.
