Possibly too much..
The only thing that would make me give up bikeing is being dead, or looseing legs, then i'd get a trike.. (but this is partly why i'm a carefull rider)
One of the reasons i dont go speeding about the place, no licence = no rideing, speeding fine = money that is better spent on bike.. e.t.c.
Some people bikeing is a hobby which is fine, to others its f@cking serious buisness, for me its the latter.
(imo a "biker" is somebody who has that horrible sinking feeling anytime they can't go out on the bike cause its off the road or whatever, keeps you awake at night sometimes.. you dont fancy a ride out you NEED it) ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

I'm going to have to agree with you Rick. Although I am still young I think about things alot, usually because my mind wanders and 75% of the time I'm thinking about bikes, or girls, or girls on bikes. But that's beside the point.
I think biking is one of the best things in the world, there's nothing else I've ever done that gives me the rush that biking does, no car will ever compare to a bike, it's just not the same. Yes, maybe some cars go faster than some bikes but speed is not speed until you are feeling it on two wheels, a mere 10 inches or so from the floor. There is so many things that you can do with biking, kneedowns, burnouts, wheelies and stoppies alike, they are things that wouldn't look as good in a car, if indeed they are possible.
And indeed, the perfect way to die is on the bike, because it might hurt a little bit but it's the way I'd wanna go. Plus loads of bikers would come to my funeral which would be out this world! I don't think I'd stop biking until this inevitable fact happens. I agree with Mr. Z in the fact that biking is indeed a serious thing to me, a very serious thing.
I like the freedom biking gives me, I mean if it wasn't snowing outside and I wasn't extremely skint I could saddle up and go anywhere in the world. Sounds abit crazy but it is true. I like how biking is more than a sport, or hobby, it's a community. You don't see cars nodding to each other now do you? Also I have made friends, good friends, that I wouldn't have met without owning a bike, and it's fun to think about how my life would have pathed out without me deciding that I want one, and was going to get one. I went to my first bike meet at 16!
On my list of priorities, I'd say it's pretty high. I mean I wouldn't give it up if my family told me to (They wouldn't, seen as most of them have been involved/still are involved with bikes), they have to live with it. I wouldn't give it up if a future bird told me to, they would get binned or have to live with it too. Infact now I think of it I don't think I'd give it up for anyone, it would be selfish of whoever told me to, and they all know how much I love biking.
Oh, and did I forget to tell you that having a nice bike makes you a phanny magnet? |

My family always comes first (wife and daughter). The bike is a machine and a hobbie that is there to be used when I'm ready.
My family is by far the most important thing to me, not a piece of machinery!

before I had kids the bikes were the only thing in my life as well as my wife, she had to make do with only half the bedroom cos my chop was in the other half being rebuilt, when the kids were born the bikes were left behind and cars became the things of necessity rather than choice, now my kids are all grown up the bikes have become the main priority again, yes I love my wife and kids with all my heart, but they know this time is my time now and they let me get on with it, yes I do spend too much money on silly impulse purchases...did I really need them vertabraes, did I really need the race can etc etc. but I don't drink (much) I don't smoke, I pay for everything including my wifes overdraft, so why should'nt I be totally engrossed in my lifetime love, ____________________ "Speed:The thing about speed is that you can't catch the people who've attained it to ask them how they got so fast. Means nothing to me...........i'd rather bash rusty nails through my 'winky' than ride a bike
HA HA..
Takes up a lot of my time, the house doesn't get the attention it deserves, nor the garden nor my temple of a body... (shut it Rick )
It means a lot to me. |

12 months ago I would have answered 'The most important thing in my life, and the thing that makes me most happy'.
As times goes on I have started to lose my love for biking. In the past twelve moths I have been reversed over by a car, and ended up in a court battle because someone got a friend to lie for them, lowsided on a patch of diesel helpfully left by a bus and two weeks ago ended up going over the highside for god knows what reason.
This added to the fact that motorcycling is a continuing expense has began to drain my enthusiasm. I havent even began stripping the bike down after the crash because I just cant be arsed. Prior to the crash the bike wouldnt even leave the garage because i couldnt even be on with putting on all my textile gear and getting the bike out.
Riding round on my battered CBR has lost its touch, the thrill has gone. Every magazine you read shows these brand new bikes that I know I will never have the money to justify, let alone the money to insure it. Theres just too much to lose on bikes, one minute I was perfectly happy on my way to Tescos, the next I was on the floor with a 206 about to reverse over me. Ive had the offer from a mate to use his ninja whilst mine is out of action, Ive had to say no because I just dont feel like riding and Im shit scared Im going to end up in a mess because of someone elses fuck up.
Ive got a lot of soul searching to do, Im not sure if I will bother going back into biking. If I look at it with my head its just not the right thing to do, If I think with my heart then I see myself back on the bike before summer. Other than that at this point in time I dont feel that biking is important enough to me to throw any more money at for now.

i must admit that i've become a bit obsessed with bikes.
i normally like to read novels but for the last six months all i've done is read bike mags about the infitisimally small diffferences of litre sportsbikes that are still beyond my reach.
i read this forum too much too...
biking is a source of adrenalin and freedom. Throwing yourself into a churning, force-of-nature surf-wave gives you the same feeling. (off to live in Oz soon... )
so it's impossible to know how you will feel unless you try other activities.
i think you can take it too far. i think i am at the moment.
....and dying on a bike is certainly not on the agenda.!
my missus wouldn't be pleased and i'd miss the nooky! ____________________ Ridey, riding a Black '08 CBR600RR |

Hmmm, yeah, you are right. Though to be honest It hasn't changed my opinion. I guess many would say i'm selfish for saying so but I simply don't value my life.
I recall one occasion I came face to face with a car, through a down up down chicane, come over the brow on a RH lean and saw it. Had a brown leather moment but somehow just bumped myself 2ft to the left. It was awesome and probably the most vivid momory I have of motorcycling. it always brings a smile to my face.
If I had 24 hours to live there is only only place id be - in the saddle, even if it is snowing, all the more fun. ____________________ Where does a turn end? Why does a good, reasonably well replied to thread turn into a slagging match between Mr Dodds and Mr GSXR, with the odd comment from Mr Knight?
Funny though |
