I've heard about rubbing candle wax or soap into the creases in the boots to make them more supple, but I think that wearing them round the house etc will do you well.
Luckily I've never had a problem with wearing in my boots (Sidi Vertigo, and Sidi Black Rain). Never had any Oxtar, so no experience there

Get them soaking wet and walk about in them 'til they are dry. Wear two pairs of thin socks to prevent blisters.
That's how the army do it, they take their new recruits off on a route march which will include going through a river or loads of wet grass, then march them back.
