Joe Calzaghe Vs Jeff(left hook)Lacey.

I got onto this topic on 'Current Affairs' but thought I should post a reminder for anyone who's interested.

The fight's in Manchester but it's on at 2am for the sake of American TV.

This is a very exciting fight and should be worth watching. It's hard to know what's going to happen but that's the attraction. The stakes are high for Calzaghe.

Calzaghe is a powerfull and clever boxer but I saw Laceys last fight and it was like watching a steam train running over an old cat.
If Calzaghe is clever I think he can win it but Lacey is very very dangerous.

If it was on pay-per-view then I would be pissed off that it was on so late. I'm surpised it's on normal TV.

I am no good at staying awake late at night myself, even on a night out I just fade and have to go to bed by 2.

I remember staying awake to watch a Naseem fight that in the end actually started at about 3.30am. I fell asleep and woke up to see end interviews. Mad
They advertise the start time of the whole billing which starts at 11.30 but runs through to the early hours. bastads.

This fight definately kicks off at 2am.
I will have to buy some red-bull, disgusting stuff but it does the trick.

It definitely is a good fight by non-PPV standards, true. I think ITV have invested quite a bit in boxing recently. If I remember right I also read somewhere that they were having second thoughts about it, following the abysmal Harrison fight which must have had people switching off their TVs right across the country. Laughing

Just had a quick look at the bill and there will be a light-middleweight fight and a cruiserweight fight which will presumably precede the Calzaghe/Lacy one, so at least it won't be a case of sitting through those painfully dull training films for an age beforehand.

The williams v harrison fight was a joke. Not a great advert for ITV boxing at all.

Williams V skelton was a good match last week, well it was suprisingly entertaining anyway and williams obviously wanted to win badly.
It made me laugh, he almost looked light-footed and spritely in front of skelton.
He was dirtier than a whores pants but Danny Williams was impressive to hang on and have that kind of energy in the last round.
I couldn't see Audrey dealing with that kind of butting and leaning without completely losing his composure.

Well spotted!

I might just have a lie-in, avoid radio and news and then get up at 11.30 to watch it. Much easier!

I ended up watching the lot until 3:30, and well worth it it was too. The Calzaghe fight was fantastic and the Maccarinelli/Hobson one was great too.

I won't spoil it since lots of people won't have watched it yet, but the repeat's on in 15 minutes on ITV and it is well worth watching. Thumbs Up

Bloody hell it was the best boxing match I have seen in years. Calzaghe slipped, duck and dodged before letting loose frenzied combinations in a way I don't think I've witnessed since Muhammed Ali. Come the end of the fight I was genuinely concerned for Left Hook Lacey as I was suspected he could be starting to suffer permanent damage. At certain points in the fight he was taking a good 7-8 head shots in quick concession.

Awesome fight by an awesome guy Thumbs Up

My girlfriend was not impressed with me cheering and half pissed at around 3:30 in the morning!
What a fight!
I really admire Calzaghe's unwavering self belief, to walk in the ring against someone with Lacey's reputation and physique and make him look very amateur.
I think it should have been stopped sooner. between the 9th and 10th rounds Lacey asked his corner what round they were at, he really looked like he wanted it to be over. He was totally bewildered and had nothing else to give.
I think his corner were gambling that he might have one big punch left in him but he took so many shots it was getting nasty.

Best fight I've seen in a while, only complaint being that it was completely one-sided. Fight should have been stopped before the 12th if not before, but I guess there's the dignity and honour of Lacy having stood up for all 12 rounds. His knockdown seemed like it was the hit from 3 or 4 punches ago finally taking it's toll.

Where does Calzaghe go from here? Jones Jr seems like he's past it, so Tarver at this weight or Glen Johnson if he steps up?

Was always usnsure of whether Calzaghe was a decent fighter, or an over-protected coward. This fight won me over.

Not sure what's next for Calzaghe.
Roy Jone's is way past his best but calzaghe mentioned in an interview that he would still be an attractive fight because of his legendary status.
From his interviews it sounds like Calzaghe will go for anyone and get the biggest fights possible. Tarver would be a good one. Maybe the next stage to silence his critics is to go over to America and beat the best in thier own back yard.

No worries. Forgot it was on at the time, and have been told it was ok (Williams Skelton). Calzaghe's fight has got me up for more violence. Twisted Evil

Unless the login details have changed, I should be ok Wink . Won't be able to get in until tonight though.

Cheers Thumbs Up
