and rain do not mix,

I've had these on my GPZ since september, they cost me a whopping £20 from the BMF,

I like them, they warm up quick, I like the bigger grip as it means your finger tips are not hanging off in the cold as with normal rubber heated grips,

however I have discovered their flaw.

They are absorbent. Today I park my bike at college at 8:45, I return at 12:20pm bike soaked, but I don't care I'm kitted for a down poor, well most of me is, bar my gloves,

I don't acutally own a pair of motorcycle gloves, I just wear thin leather gloves with a pair of wolly ones under near as I like to be able to feel everything ( long story but I crashed wearing chunky winter gloves, put me off for life) I;m warming Geeperz up and steam is ouzing from the grips! Like a kettle that's ben left on the AGA too long.
serious amounts,

fairly worrying electricity and water,

but I ride home, I can feel my hands getting more damp but they still warm.

So verdict:

good, unless you leave you bike parked in rain ( if you were riding in rian your hand covers the grip so it's okay) when they absorb as much water as they can.

I now have(as far as I can see) two options;
A: Do I leave them on the bike in future wet conditions just to get damp hands and gloves.
B: do I take them off at the little connector for each grip leaving the exposed connector to the rain instead.

I'd just take em off...

Its getting warmer now anyway, i dont feel the need for them any more. Glad i didnt waste £30 on a set 1 month ago, wouldnt use em now.

Plus if you dont like chunky things - like the feel of the bars etc... How can you have wrap around grips? They enlarge the size of your grips so you dont realy get a "proper" grip...?

The electrical circuits will be sealed, so don't worry about wet grips. No more dangerous than an electric kettle.

As for an option you haven't mentioned... little plastic sandwich bag and an elastic band to secure it over each grip when you leave it in the rain. Then you'll have dry grips to use! Smile

I like the larger grips, The reason im 'big glove'o'phobic' is because I have small hands, the gloves were large, I got in a bit of a tangle, cudnt grab my brake or my clutch and ended up on the bonet of a car at sixth form, the guy was a knob lots of threats, police got envolved ( to defend me from him and his 30mates) I paid £500 to undent his bonet,

I need heated grips all year round, I have incredibly bad circulation and joints, so I need to keep me warm at all times from my toes to my nose ( not easy on a bike and a budget) which is a very hard task, heated grips work for me, I have low body heat therfore have virtually none to retain so they help to give me some heat.

I leave them on all year round and only don't use them when its reaalllly hot.

Thought had crossed my mind, but at my college I regualrily get left 'deposits' on my bike. of sandwiches, bottles artistically placed.
switches get flicked.

cctv some how manages to be pointing the wrong way everytime.
so the bags would be removed and prolly shoved down the exhausts

Sounds like you need an alarm there boyo.

College can be crap at times, although ive never had any real problems at mine, the only people who dare touch my bike are my best mate and my other mate. They both ride and know that its not right to mess with other peoples bikes.

Maybe check ebay for a little alarm - You can buy ones for like £30 or so, and bump it up to the highest level, if you position the sensor / main ECU of it in the right place, it will be set of by people meerly touching your handlebars... Thumbs Up

This may be a bit extreme... But why dont you get yourself a cover for your bike? Relatively cheap from the right place, and a set of bungees...

Put this over your bike when you leave it at college, bungee it down tight around your bike - Itll keep your bike dry during the rainy day's, and also might stop people from flicking your switches and leaving sandwiches on your seat...?

I'm not that bothered, if it was my ikkle
NSR I'd batter their heads to a pulp
but the gpz has scratches all over it, that's how I bought it, cheap first big bike as I knew I'd drop it ( and I did on xmas eve Embarassed )

alarm would just entice them to set it off,
would kill my battery
and its more electrical crap to go wrong.

bike cover is also a little OTT, plus no where to store it at college so I'd have to take it with me, meh can't be arsed, someone would prolly just slash a hole in it ofr take it off just to see what's under it.

Get Dropped off by your mum.

Catch the bus.

Beat the kids up.

Park it somewhere you can see it from your classroom.

Put a sign on it - "1000kvolts. Dont Touch - Danger of Death" should do.

Steal a "Disabled" badge and park it in the appropriate parking spaces, they always have cctv covering it.

Go to the security guys - Turn CCTV to watch my bike, im having problems.

Buy big handlebar muffs, theyll keep you warm and will keep your grips dry.

Get the other Oxford hand grips - The ones that replace your original bar grips - They arent absorbant and as far as im aware 100% waterproof, damn warm too.

?

Catch the bus. 2hours on a bus compared with 10 on bike pfft!

Beat the kids up. - I'm liking this one, or atleast catch em and scare the crap outta at least one

Park it somewhere you can see it from your classroom. - It is but none of the seats are near the window, I do check on it every 15 minutes or so

Put a sign on it - "1000kvolts. Dont Touch - Danger of Death" should do. - I'm REALLY liking this one! but they wouldn't beleive it, I'd also prolly get told off by the health and safety guy Rolling Eyes

Steal a "Disabled" badge and park it in the appropriate parking spaces, they always have cctv covering it. - no disabled places currently on site as lots of building going on, I currently park on caretakers driveway

Go to the security guys - Turn CCTV to watch my bike, im having problems. - I have done, but they all seem to be who the casting department based the characters for the 'IT crowd' on and are useless

Buy big handlebar muffs, theyll keep you warm and will keep your grips dry. - I'm paradnoid these will get wedged between lever and bar
Get the other Oxford hand grips - The ones that replace your original bar grips - They arent absorbant and as far as im aware 100% waterproof, damn warm too.
I bought these ones have them on the varadero, I like the grips, they work, I just need to overcome this water problem
?

good effort btw Thumbs Up

Thought of waterproofing them with a spray? I think you can get a spray which will 're-waterproof' leathers, you can also get it for tents. This way the majority of the water from rain should just bead off the grips, and you can give the handlebars a wucik shake when you're back to get any excess off? At the very least, it would reduce the problem, if not solve it.

I paid £6 for a can of this spray from 'GO outdoors' in coventry
It made no difference what so ever with my jacket so I'll keep a further 6.

Used a candle on seam of water proofs, but the wax wud just melt on heated grips...

such a pickle, I should just write to oxford and plead poverty and a free set Wink

don't want to spend money where I don't have to,

I have had normal grips, rubber ones, can honestly say that I prefer these,
my next set I buy will be the Daytona ones with the adjustable heat setting, had a set of R&G ones on varadero, glued them on, so brother got a free upgrade for the bike then as I can't get them off now, and for £15 I'm not going to rip the throttle body to bits

Linky 1

Linky 2

Linky 3

Good 'un linky 4

(That'll do for now, theres a few more on their mind...)

Now these aint the grips, just saw them and figured they might be some kind of use to you? There are the little hot pouch things, re-usable ones...
