I don’t like buying sandwiches everyday at work, they can range from £1.10 to £3.00 so I’m loosing money by doing this.
I make my own sometimes but I find that I buy for example a sandwich filler and a few other things and find I get bored of it.
Sandwich fillers are generally meant to be used up in a few days, egg mayo everyday for a week gets sickly, and if I try and make others I’m finding I buy too many ingredients so I either through stuff away or I run out of ideas.
Do any of you make your own?
If so, how do you keep a bit of variety going?

ah my speciality......FOOD!
Here is what i do every week i buy:
buy 2 loafs of bread £1.40
6 slices of ham £1.24
cheese 99p
lettuce 70p
tomatoes 40p
cucumber 38p
sandwich spread 80p
already in cupboard
mayonaise
red sauce
pickle
mix and match everyday.
i save a fortune and also a good idea is if you have chicken save some for sandwhich filler and also make a little extra of your nightime meal and wrap it and put it in the fridge for lunch next day!
i do that with sheperds pie, lasagne and spaghetti bolognase!
yum!
think il grap a sarnie, youve made me hungry now ____________________ Previous zxr400 - Current ZXR636 late'03

I had same problem when I used to work the boring 9-5 in my gap year. I used to live for my lunch break so I could get some freedom and enjoyment. Marks and sparks everyday, sometimes I would spend £2 sometimes £5. There pasta dishes are awsome for lunch.
But yeah its just such a waste of money.
All I want now though is a nice sandwich since reading this thread. I havent had one for ages. Think I'll pop to shop and buy one, cheers killa

I HATE making sandwiches, but I cringe at buying lunches. I eat sandwhich at 10, lunch at 1, then afternoon snack at 3. I could easily spend £30-£40 a week just on lunches. So I make my own, plus I usually don't work anywhere near sandwhich shops!
Having a variety of rolls help too. Morisons do some great little ciabata cobs at 19p.
Usual snap box contains-
2 cobs
Tin of pop
2 bags crisps
2x fruit
1/2 packet of buscuits
yoghut
1L of tap-water.
Filling today was pork-haslet, brie, letluce and whole grain mustard. |

I sometimes take soup to work instead, or make a cheese salad, cous cous or pasta, or take a potato and microwave it. If I can be bothered. Sandwiches do get a bit boring so just try and vary it as much as possible.
Try this on a sandwich, sounds horrible but it's actually really nice:
Corned beef, beetroot and salad cream |

I used to have:
The old packup:
2 Ham rolls
Bag o' crisps
2 Chocc'y / snacky bars
Then i would alternate for the next day:
2 CHEESE rolls
Bag o' diff flavour crisps
1 Chocc'y bar
1 Yoghurt
Wednesday would be special day for surving till midweek:
BIG Roll from sandwich shop (Literraly an industrial sized baguette) for £1.50 with about 6 fillings.
Bag 'o crisps
Choccy Bar
Lollipop for consumption during the next oil service (Gets boring waiting for oil to dribble out)
Thursday would be back to monday again, with a diff choccy bar.
Friday would be the same as Tuesday...
But with a Bacon Roll from the catering van that rolls past in the morning for breakfast! (That was my treat for surviving almost the whole week, and celebrating the end of the week).
Cheap, Cheerfull, Variety!
The best thing about the end of the week was that:
You had ham on monday - by thursday you've forgotten what it tasted like on monday, Then by friday - because you had ham yesterday, cheese feels like a treat again! ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Gilera GSM 50 ... Honda NSR 125 Aug '04 ...

Get Ainsley Harriet's (however you spell his name) ready flavoured cous cous, then just dice some salad things to add in.
My preference is Tesco's Mediterranean Cous Cous and I like to add my own olives, diced cucumber and some pumpkin seeds.
Pasta salad, just add tuna and sweetcorn and some diced tomatoes/cucumber or lettuce and finish with some salad dressing of your choice.
Buy some chicken and fry it with spices (you can buy a jar of Fajita/jamaca etc) and chop up some lettuce, and toast some slightly stale bread to make croutons add a bit of cheese and some caeser dressing - delicious! ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

I was inspired by this thread at lunch time so I thought it was time to stand up, take a risk and make a break from the norm.
I went the sandwhich shop and got myself......wait for it..........cheese, pickle and salad bagguette. I will have to dream up something equally exotic for tomorrow's lunch. ____________________ GSXR600 |

I'm having the same problem. Some of these posts have been really helpful! I've found myself eating more crap than ever lately, because you need something cheap and quick that fills you up when at work.
Lately, I've felt tired, crappy and my IBS seems to be worse. Honestly, my favourite food is fruit, and vegetables, so my body is used to having loads of it and at least 2 pints of water everyday. I feel like I need a detox and I've never had that before. So I've started drinking water all day at work, and in the mornings I'm having hot water with lemon.
I just watch all these err .. older ladies at work, with thier tiny little rabbit food salads, and I just think "How the hell can you go all day on just that?!" I like to eat my lunch not inhale a few food particles.
I'm going to start taking lunches, and trying some of these yummy sandwiches that have been suggested. Then I can just cram my lunch box with loads and loads of fruit and vege aswell! ____________________ Never have a row with an Idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experience. |
