A biker to me is purely someone who rides a bike... Whether they do it for pleasure or commuting.

It's not a special club.

I'm not sure how pro pillions factor into the equation though Smile

I agree, if I'm honest. But I know of plenty of other people on this forum who aren't 'bikers' in my book. Hell, technically I'm not a biker at the moment, but not through my own free will. Sad

Are pillions bikers? Not really. But... There's nothing wrong with posting in forums and hanging around with bikers.

What makes a biker? A licence is a good start. Laughing I suppose it's a state of mind. Pro pillions are nearly bikers. Smile I imagine that a lot of female bikers started as pro pillions. Even some male ones.

Pigeonholing. Doncha love it.

When I'm on the gixxer, some folk call me a power ranger.

When I'm on my 125 step through, others call me a scooterist.

When I have the lend of a mate's KTM Adventure 950,they say I'm a wannabe desert racer.

Some,on seeing me sans helmet have been moved to note I look like a biker(thug)

I don't really mind what anyone thinks a biker is or is not,I get a rush from anything on two wheels, and I'm happy with my lot.

Call me what you wish,as long as it's not too early in the morning. Wink

Pillions are no more bikers than a passenger on a train is an engine driver. I've flown on a 747 etc, that didn't make me an airline pilot....

I think a biker is some one who has or still does ride a motorbike (whether it be a scooter or goldwing, if it's a bike with an engine; it's a motorbike in my book).

I think the phrase has evolved by people who like to think they are special by turning it to mean: A die hard bike rider for life who doesn't use any other form of transportation and never will.

Even though there is a kind of special sence of 'family' among motorbike riders, it is ruined by them who look down on the part-time and ex-motorbike riders just to make themselves feel that extra bit special.

Can we just leave it at: If you have ever riden a bike, you are a biker none the less, instead of trying to define your dedication to motorbikes by trying to incorporate into one word that therefore cannot be defined properly and thus causing petty arguments.

Why not instead......
1st person: Are you a biker?
2nd person: Yes
1st person: do you bike for leisure, commute or both?

Second Biker: Fuck off, you nosy git. You're in my way and I am late for getting to the pub. If you don't move, I'm going to have to cut your ears off and stuff them up your arse with a rusty Philips screwdriver.

First Biker: Oi. You got oil on my nice new Rossi outfit when you poked me so viciously in the chest just then. I flaunt my kevlar back protector at you, and kneedown sparkfully in your general direction whilst my fit Mrs in matching leathers flips the bird at you as we race past you at 180 mph on the M20.

Which is the real biker?

Rolling Eyes

The arse hole might of had a bike before, lol.

They both are. As I pointed out, it's the point of which one is the more dedicated!

The one more interested in riding his bike than going the pub! Razz

Pillions are not bikers in my opinion, the only criteria that you're a biker is you ride a bike, pillions don't, they sit there like a sack of spuds, well if they're a good pillion they do.

Hmm, I going to go against the tide and say yes, I do consider pillions, bikers.

Not just casual, have a go pillions though.

There is a lot more to riding pillion that just sitting there. A pillion can dictate the movement of the bike just as much as the rider can.

A pillion that understands the principles of motorcycling, the physics of cornering, the saftey aspect and the comraderie of motorcyclists to me, is a biker.

Some people like sit and beg, some people like their arse in the air, some people like trikes, some people even like sidecars. We are all out there braving the elements and eating buttys, why shrink and divide ur numbers when we can grow and overcome?

FFS Let it go, I know some one who lost there licence still wears the A-star jacket in town as he like the biker culture and likes to be around bikes. Confused He considers him self a biker but wont be riding for a long time.

Who gives a shit if she goes pillion only still means she is a part of bikes.

Most plane passengers aren't pretty and f*cking the pilot either. Laughing

Just because they don't actually control the bike doesn't mean they should be excuded from it all though.

3kg of road salt
3.5litres of gear oil,
throw in some 2t oil for character,
place in a leather lined tray, bake at 9000rpm for 1hour.

Not all people who are on two wheels are 'bikers' some just ride on 2 wheels for cheap, fast transport.
