On topic with today's headlines that 5 men are in intensive care following participating in medical trials....
Has any one or anyone you know ever taken part in medical trials?
How much did you earn - would you do it again?
As a university student we were regularly leafleted with opportunities to earn £££££ for doing nothing! All you have to do is take these pills 5 times a day/give blood samples once a week etc... ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

I think the story is quite horrific (especially one of the guys head swelling 3x as big ) but I supose that is the risk you take when doing one of these ventures. I suppose in extremely rare cases no amount of animal testing could forsee the outcome. |

I remember hearing on the radio (think it was Capital or similar) for volunteers for 'Anthrax testing'!
They tried to make it sound a bit less frightful but it did make me chuckle. No thanks.
I feel sorry for these blokes they would have had a false sense of security.
Apparently no matter how much they test on animals they are totally different to humans in some ways and things like this can happen. ____________________ GSXR600 |

Considering you get warned that a vitamin C pill bought in Tescos might have these side effects, I reckon they had a long list of possible complications in this case as well . |

This is not good news as i've just signed up as a volunteer for medical testing with a company based in Manchester near my Uni. It took me a month to persuade my mum it was fine and i wasnt going to 'die' during testing!
Me suspects the phone will be ringing soon with a worried old dear on the end of it!
The surveys i intend to do however are the more basic ones; paying around £500-800 for a 2-3 day stay etc. and with a drug that has already been tested on humans before.
I can see this affecting the companies themselves quite substancially, but then again, people will always be needing money so who knows.

I applied to a medical trial. Went up for the initial medical (expenses fully paid for in cash) passed that but when I went back a few weeks later for the trial I had picked up an infection and couln't participate.
Seemed ok though if you've nothing better to do.
Free accomadation, 3 square meals a day, no work and you get paid for it.

Would you believe they had an unprecedented amount of people sign up for testing after the story broke on the news |

I don't see what all the fuss is about. There's a few people on BCF with big heads, inflated egos, whacked out on drugs and with tiny genitalia - I don't see them making headlines...
