 |
|
Hiya,
Work have organised a weekend away 'team building' for a few of our offices. One of the activities is clay pigeon shooting. Now, I've not got great eyesight and my left eye is lazy (or has a squint, whichever you prefer). I am also left handed.
I can remember watching a tv program that you dont use the sight on the shot gun as you would for normal shooting.
Has anyone been before and got any pointers? I dont really want to look a prat and not hit anything. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

Oh I love clay shooting.
But yeah you dont aim with the sight as such, you lead the clay on its path it will follow.
Depending on the choke been used you get a reasonable size spread so its just sort of lead it and hope your shot is at the same place when the clay fly's through it all .
Its easy really, you may not be spot on but you will soon pick it up.
Just make sure you really lock the butt into your shoulder or you'll be aching really bad the next day or possible have a nice bruise on your cheek where its kicked into it. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

Even if you miss a clay just claim you 'winged it' or 'it looked pretty scared'. ____________________ www.predatorsport.co.uk Paintball arena located between Northampton and Milton Keynes |

I have to say it's very brave of the MD to give everyone in the company access to a fully loaded shot gun when he's easily within it's range! ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

If you can't hit a clay after a couple of shots then turn the gun on the crowd.
They don't move as fast.
BTW It isn't that difficult just chill. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |

An easy practice, just hold your arm against your cheek whilst tipping your head in a bit and point your finger straight out. Point at flying birds and smoothly move in front of them with your pointy finger and say 'bang' whilst keeping moving at the same rate, if you can do that you can hit clays.
The biggest problem is being to tense, its just a game, hold the gun firm but easy and be smooth, you will get a few without too much problems! ____________________ www.predatorsport.co.uk Paintball arena located between Northampton and Milton Keynes |

I used to go all the time.
Its best to follow through the clay pigeon and then shoot, rather than keeping your gun in the same place until the clay comes flying towards your gun point. It can also be easier/harder to shoot with your two eyes open, thats how pro's shoot. |

I used to help run a clay pigeon shooting establishment. Boy do you see some idiots, I remember one guy fired before I was given the order to pull (yes I was a trapper) my wisecracking boss walked up to him and said one of the funniest things ive heard in years "Excuse me sir, we have a phrase for incedents like this, we call it premature ejaculation" Not one person kept a straight face, the poor git was a laughing stock for the rest of the day.
Highlights of that day being I got to drive a Honda Pilot off roader and spectate on the testing of the new range of Apache off roader 4x4's (we were working at the venue of their manufacture) they have 750 CBR engines in them and do 100mph on a flat
