i'm on my third one. cheap as chips to run, very reliable and a fun top end rush above 7000rpm. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and tops out just under 130mph. done almost 150,000 miles in total on various GPZ 500's Thumbs Up

why not gsxr mick?

I dont like the rattles, had my bike serviced, absoloubtly nothin wrong with it..and it still sounds like a wannabe ducatti Shocked

other than that I love it, even if it is 33bhp,

though I did get 120 miles to a tank of petrol again today Sad

I've had bad experiences with them, probably nothing at all to do with the bikes it's just that both kawasakis I've owned have been lemons and it sort of puts you off. Also there are equally good offerings from othe manufacturers so my personal choice would be one of the other jap 3.

Fair enough, I prefer the finish on my hondas, the gpz seems to have its mind set on rusting into a heap, endless battle, neither of the hondas were this bad or the aprilia!

rattles lots, but its comfy, good on fuel, cheap to insure...

I've still got my 93 Gpz500, loads of fun, has been cheap to keep on the road, stuck rearsets on to improve the look, it never quite had the effect, it still looks like an old gpz Very Happy

Agreed, the worst thing i can say about them is the finish. Just 1 winters worth of abuse can turn a mint bike into a shed. It's definatly worth getting the swing arm and wheels (and the frame if you want to take it that far) powder coated.

Aye, but they stay a reliable and comparatively fast shed for years and years.

It isn't worth getting anything powder coated, they don't rust badly, just look a bit tatty. Just ride it is my advice, that's what I do, that's what they are for.

If you want something to clean and polish, buy a Harley. Wink

Lovely bikes, some really tidy examples out there STILL.

They have everything I want in a 500:

Fast(er than my CG)
Fun (7k rush)
Lots of parts
Fairings
Not full on sports, hate the riding position of sportsbikes

Hi

Nice enough bikes. They are a bit rattly but that is probably the primary drive chain (no tensioner on it). Build quality is acceptable.

Biggest problems are the massive amounts of play in the rear suspension even with new bushes, the tyre sizes on the old ones and the alternator magnets going on holiday around the engine.

All the best

Keith

Those last two points are resolved in the D model aren't they? (Not nit picking, just making sure my knowledge is right)

Yep, those only cause a problem on the early models.

All the best

Nowt wrong with the 16" front wheel other than a lack of choice in tyres, and that is hardly the bikes fault. Mine has never put a foot wrong.

Look's like mine/my Dads will need the camchain doing now, or could just be that next to his Deauville it's very noisy, we havent had the GPZ running for a while.

In a traffic light GP a GPZ is good enough for the real world upto the speed limit, comparing against bike's, not car's.

Does the job and is reasonably fun for a relative pittance.
