Hi all,

Im in the process of buying a brand new car and came across this site,

www.nicenewcar.co.uk

Now the car Im looking at has over £2000 off the dealership price! How can they offer a car so cheap? It's not an import it is full UK spec, comes with 3 years warranty and 12 months tax. All sounds pukka to me. Anyone heard or dealt with a company like this??

Many thanks,

Sainty Cool

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

not dealt with or heard of them specifically but they can save you money as they have less overheads etc from operating online.

give them a ring or if your near York then pop in and see them to make you feel at ease about them.

I live in Cambridge so a little bit of a trek to york! They said they deliver the car from manchester so it would have like 250 miles on the clock! Thats the only difference from buying from a dealer that I can see!

No, and you can often expect more. Fleet buyers always get a big sicount, because they buy in bulk. These companies basically get a small comission for referring you to a dealer. Because they are referring so many people, the dealer can offer the cars with a big discount, like those fleet operators get (minus the commission to the referrer).

Here are some more sites (UK car, from a UK main dealer, regular UK warranty and usually with any additional current UK dealer benefits like 0% finance or free insurance offers):

https://www.drivethedeal.com/
https://www.broadspeed.com/
https://www.new-car-discount.com/

Read their FAQ/ About us pages. All they do is get your details, the car you are after, then pass your details on to a main car dealer that they have an agreement with. That dealer may be the one down the road for you, or it may be 200 miles away.

There are plenty more.

When you find the best deal possible, print it off and try and get your local dealer to match it. Have a test drive of the car first, then when you sit down to talk about it, show him the printout. If he says no, buy it from the other dealer. After a lot of huffing, mine matched it.

Cool thanks for the reply dmahon! Thumbs Up

The car im looking at on this site has over £2000 off of list price!

Surely a dealership cannot beat this offer for a single sale? I've heard of them knocking a few hundred off but £2000? Will they laugh me out the dealership??

Any replies welcome! Thumbs Up

Course not. They know you are getting the car. They know that if they don't sell you the car then you will get it from another UK main dealer (you've shown them the printout). They also know that they've just wasted an hour giving you a test drive. So they know you'll be the one laughing at them if they turn you away.

If the other dealer can still make a profit, so can they. Let them know that it's no skin off your nose if they can't match it, you'll just get it from their competition - you'll still be able to use them for servicing (and any warranty repairs that need doing).

If they can't match it, walk away and laugh at them, then order it from the other dealer.

Just remembered the site that I used for the printout to take with me:

Yes.

The salesman looked at it, then got the website up on their computer and read the FAQ/about section. Then read the prices. Then went upstairs to talk to someone.

When he came down, said he'd spoke to the manager, but couldn't quite offer the same price. He said the best he could do was x% off (which was only about £100 more expensive than the web price). When I then added on the extras I wanted, and he gave me x% off everything (including the on the road charges like delivery, tax and numberplate), it actually worked out about £20 cheaper than the website! So I ordered it there and then. Thumbs Up

x% off in my case was about 12.5% but I can't remember exactly. That was on an Astra cabriolet 2.0 turbo (about £20k before discount, three years ago).

I did exactly the same last year buying a VW Golf for my Dad - they matched it exactly.
