Hi,

After researching on a few topics on here, I've gathered that I will need an A1/A2 Licience in order to ride my bike without L-Plates and be able to carry a pillion passenger, right?

I just wanted to know what is expected at this lesson with the DSA for the A-restricted licence. Will I have to ride around cones etc. or will I be followed on main roads?

I'm 20 years old. Succesfully passed my CBT nearly a year ago and recently just passed my Theory/Hazard so I'm ready to get rid of the L-plates. I'll be 21 later in the year but I can't wait till then to apply for the DAS (full licence?)

I want to make sure that I can go for my test prepared.

I currently own a DNA-125 which I'm about to sell and plan to buy a Honda CBR/NSR-125

Thanks,

DAS should be quite an intensive course, if your rideing arround cones for more than an hour if that, you picked the wrong school... 3/4 days rideing arround all types of roads and getting instructions much like on the cbt, its the cbt on uber elephant steroids...

(for a full unrestricted licence you need to be 21 and pass your test on a bike with over 40bhp or so, the restricted test you can do from 17 and on a 125, but restricted to 33bhp for two years)

re: the change of bike.. cbrs and nsr are better bikes (the dna is lets face it a less comfortable scooter) but 125 are outragously overpriced for what they are, buying a 125 after passing a full test or restricted 33bhp test (not to mention carrying pillions) would be (no offence) idiotic imo.

A 400cc bros, cb500, cbr250, er-5, theres hundeds of bikes out there that are worlds away from 125s.. (which have their advantages, none of which are comfort or pillion carrying)

welcome to the forum btw Thumbs Up

There are a lot of things you wil have to prove safe at to pass your test.
U turn without putting a foot down, touching kerb or stopping in front of a driveway.
Hill start without rolling back and doing all correct checks and signals, junctions, traffic lights, angled starts, emergency stops, getting up to sped in a 60mph, list goes on but school will go through it all with you.
You are bound to have some bad habits to kick too.
Good luck

If you're thinking of doing your test soon you might want to reconsider buying another 125 unless you're sure you won't lose money on it. Smile

The plan was to buy a NSR/CBR sometime soon, get use to the gears and then go for my test for a restricted 33bhp then get a 250cc bike around november.

The most important thing is to be able to carry a passenger and also get rid of the L-plates - the ability to ride a 33bhp bike is secondary for the meantime.

Thanks - I'll be sure to brush up on the above tasks.

I would ideally like to take it one step at a time and also get experience on various bikes;
(DNA 125 Automatic > NSR 125 Geared > Aprilia RS 250 > Fireblade 400/500 etc..)

Thanks

Bear in mind though, an RS250 isn't for the faint hearted.

Well I'm just saying, if you want a logical and slow progession up the classes, an RS250 will be equivalent to about a 400/500, but add some more mental.

I certainly won't be rushing into bikes I don't think I'm ready for no matter how nice the bigger bikes look next to my puny DNA Neutral

A couple of people have suggested on here that I get a 400 and restrict it.

RS250 = 400/500 - Surprised

The powerband on the RS250 and such bikes is meant give you a nice little kick up the arse Wink

Just about any 125 is going to be extremely hard work with a passenger, handleing will be abismal (suspension on most is squashy at best) and the extra mass will make accelerateing anywhere fast very difficult.. (unless you and your passenger are tiny pixie like creatures)

"State of tune" and engine layout on a bike is more important on biger bikes, eg, my 500 is very mild manered, a 400 inline 4 like a zxr is nearly twice the power and allot more feisty, an rs250 will kick the ass of even an experenced rider if they aren't carefull!

Allot of it is personal preferance though, read some bike reviews for what you like the look of, go try siting on some in dealerships e.t.c.
