Sex is never free, ever.

Believe me, there is always a price, it's just that it varies! Emotional blackmail is a feminine art, and you won't even notice.

Sorry for sounding sceptical, but women know that they will get what they want in return for a bit of it. Wink

I think marriage is great for creating a more stable environment for having kids. However if you dont intend to have kids, why take out a contract that says the other person is entitled to half of everything you own ? If you are male and with kids, she will take more than half as she will have the kids and your house.

I would need to be very sure if I was going to get married.

Well, at 1pm on Saturday the 22nd of July, I will be a married man.

Quite looking forward to it tbh. I would have been engaged to her for the thick end of five years by that time, and I'm as sure as I can be that she is the girl I want to spend the rest of my life with.

I want to have children, and start slowing down my life. By christ has it sped up since leaving my teens! I'll only be 23 when I marry, but my life has just started getting stable after a few seriously turbulent years, and the wedding is just the icing on the cake.

If you are not 100% on the idea, then getting married would not be wise, but when you meet the person you'll marry, your life and outlook will change. Given time, a strong bond will form, and you will start to see what it is you want from the rest of your time.

My wedding is the starting point for the rest of my life, dedicating the rest of my life to Sam is giving me the building blocks to get started on it. I now have a very good idea what I want, and with her, I know I can achieve it.

Wink

I'd have to go with it being a good thing as I am getting married in September. He'll only be 24 bless him, but I think it is the right thing to do.

I stil agree with the idea of marriage, but I'm too clever to throw myself into it wihtout looking first. Got engaged once, and if I'd married that guy I'd prolly be in a Battered Wives' Refuge. Best to think about it first, and wait til you really know the person Thumbs Up

I think that marriage is lovely. I think it's great when two people want to show each other how committed and in love they are by getting married. No one can read the future, or tell how thier partner is going to turn out 10, or 20 years down the road. It's about acting on how you feel at the time, and how you feel about your partner now. Obviously I don't think you should just rush into it without any planning or looking ahead at all. But there's always going to be a reason not to do it, and lots of reasons why you should. If we looked at everything in life by planning way ahead, and getting scared off by all the if's and maybe's, our lives would be over and we'd wonder where the hell it went.

Because you should be pretty damn sure that you will want to be with this person for the rest of your life and that they feel the same way about you?

That may well be the dream in many cases , but things get in the way of proper judgement and of course a prenup to be renewed ever 4 years is a necessity in such times , things like Ray Parlour having to surrender 50% of his income for life is harsh and makes such defences a necessity.

Prenup's don't actually have any legal standing in court.

Also, you don't have to be married for things to be shared when you breakup.

Anyway, you people are missing the point. It isn't "half of all your stuff". It's "half of the stuff you have between you".

So, you'll only have to give away half your stuff if you've married a woman who has nothing, earns nothing, and just sponges off you.
In which case, you should have seen it coming! Wink

bugger , but then again you can always fake destruction of property , this guy sank his boat , another guy 'burnt' wads and wads of cash which I think he probably faked ie film it with a crap camera , and burn a brick of money which consists of a real £20 on top and photocopies under neath.

I hate the whole concept of marriage. I hate all religious ceremony but then I don't see the point of marriage for anyone who doesn't have a religious belief in it.

It is now just a legal contract dressed up with an extravagant social ceremony. It more than often involves stress, obligation and jealousy rather than pleasure.
I don't believe a ceremony/legal contract can really solidify any commitment between two people. It simply makes the consequences of breaking the commitment more severe.

I can see the value in it when children are involved but don't believe marriage should be a goal in a relationship.

not necessarily

My last girlfriend always earned more than me but always spent more than she earned. Its quite possible that when she left she could have tried to take half my house. Im not quite sure on the law though. Fortunately she isnt like that and is still keeping up the payments on the money she borrowed from me. I had always thought she either had her debts under control or would sort them out soon.

Im sure not all women are like this but i have a friend who is married. He earns quite a lot but doesnt really spend much. She spends it all for him.

Its different attitudes to spending and saving rather than just the size of incomes. Some people believe in spending others beleive in saving.

I think its a family thing as my family are big savers (misers) while her family are big spenders (loans for everything). Some people dont like to have to think about the cost of anything and will always buy the most expensive whatever as they think its the best. I dont believe branded washing powder is better for example but it costs about 10 times as much.

In the time i was with my girlfriend I bought a house (which i still have), a big 42" plasma tv (which I still have), a PC(still have) and 3 motorbikes (still have). She earned way more than me but spent it on fancy food and clothes. she has a stereo and an ipod but not much else to show for her debts.

Marriage is about money property and wealth.

But we have, over the years, let it turn into a soppy love affair which sometimes stops working.
Then the business side of things takes over and you have to split the business that you both entered into when you got married.
Fair.
Nowt to do with who loves who. Just a big sad day for all.

I'd still go for marry the girl tho.
The illusion of all that free sex is just to much to resist. Laughing

im surprised that so many people think to get sex you either have to pay for it directly or marry a girl

and has pointed out, marrying someone may well be more expensive in the long run

having a girlfriend who enjoys having sex and isnt in a rush to get married is better in my opinion

You missed the point again Colin.

I didn't say "she can take half of what you potentially could have had if you hadn't spent it all."

I said "take half of what you HAVE" as in, at the moment you split up, she's entitled to half of what you have at that point, as a couple.

Not that hard a concept.
