I was looking on Ebay and came across a book on tips and tricks for slot machines.
Now every one of these I ignore because they look stupid, but I was thinking about it and thought well if you knew information that has been collated from many many people you’d be in with more of a chance.
The book obviously contains some helpful hints other wise it would be a waste of paper and time I guess, the chances of winning big time are slim, but obviously less of a chance if all you know is how to press the buttons.

Anyone had one of these books, is it full of shite?

Some of them work IIRC.

But anywhere with slot machines is the last place I'd want to do something dodgy to be honest.

Had a mate who loved these things. Claimed he "made a fortune" from the slots, but then again, he always needed you to buy him a pint. He knew how to slow down the reels on a few specific ones, so that he could get the jackpot of about £15. Most of the time, it would cost him more than that to get to the point where he could use his "cheat". He'd invariably come out of the pub a few quid down, but would tell you he'd cleaned up.

I've never understood why people play them. There's a big sign on the machine telling you that whatever you put in, you'll get 75-80% back. Seems like a bad deal to me, and they're not even hiding it.

If there were really "secret cheats" that people were making a lot of money from, the companies that make the machine would go bust. And they don't. I think that the minor percentage of people that make a profit will probably be doing so from selling these books.

the only "cheat" I've found is to play a machine that's not ben played for AGES... as they are (i believe) set to pay out a little, and early under those circumstances, to encourage you to stay and pump more in.

likewise, if you see someone whack a tenner in and win nothing, chances are you're more likely to get something if you then take over playing it.

other than that, they are designed to make money for the owners, I'm pretty sure they will have thought of all the scams to make themselves as much wedge as possible.

Nope. Card counting is based on probability, and requires physical decks of cards to work. All you do is bet bigger when there's a better chance of you winning. There's no guarantee, but probability is in your favour.

As you say, fruit machines are just computers. There's no way of the same probability trick being used, and as feef says, the companies have seen all the scams before.

Funniest thing I heard for a while was the same mate who loved the fruities, telling me he'd never gamble online because you couldn't trust a computer. Smart lad.

I've personally owned many fruit machines over the years, just to have in my own games room.

The old machines from the late 70's early 80's did have sequences. For instance, when I had a JPM lucky two's, I wrote down all of the reels, went into an arcade in town, and waited until a certain thing happened, and then played it. I made a few quid. that was it.

The modern machines, have quite sopphisticated onboard computers. There is also a small bank of switches, which can control everything from the sound, to the percentage payouts.

Legally there must be a minimum payout of ((I think, 78%)) but it's often possible to flick a switch, or use the onboard computer, to increase the %age payout. That's why, in my opinion, some private members clubs or hotels, have fruit machines which might seem to payout a lot more, than the same machine elsewhere.

To access the computer, you have to open the back, press a reset button, whilst turning the machine on, for example. I don't think it's particularly easy or practical to do that surreptisously.

Here is one of the machines that I used to own,

All fruit machines have a payout cycle. So if you're clever, you can spot whn a machine is coming into its jackpot cycle. The main features I look out for is 'hold those reels' or 'let 'em spin' and all that, but also a bonus once you're on the board is good.

However, it's no guarantee. I went on a machine the other day. After putting £5 in, I got a Super Streak and won £20. Bear in mind this was a 10p play machine. The guy next to me said 'I just took £35 out of that, you lucky git.' So there's no knowing when a jackpot cycle will end.

I have a hopper key. It's just about the only way to cheat a fruit machine that works, AFAIK, without it being highly illegal (magnetic bugs to empty the hopper, etc.) It lets you into the system (like the Coke machine cheat) and tells you how much the last payout was. If it was £20, you don't pay the machine. If it was £1, give it a shot. The keys aren't illegal, but I've been barred from one place because I was seen using it. Apparently it can empty the hoppers on older machines. Rolling Eyes

The only way to really tip the odds in your favour is to get to know the machine. If you know the secrets o it, and what's an automatic jackpot, then more than likely you can walk away with a jackpot. One machine I know has a feature called 'Win Rollover'. Basically it aligns the reels and spins them very fast. The feature isn't particularly good, because it can rig it to bring in 40p or something. However if you know it, you can just leave it spinning for up to 3 or 4 minutes, and it will just roll in a jackpot. Easy as pie.

Another way to tip the odds is knowing the machines patterns. If you play enough, to begin to see patterns in the machines behaviour; ie it will send you out of the board at a specific point. So unless you're absolutely sure it's about to be a jackpot (in which case, collecting a smaller win will cock it up) you should collect there and cut your losses.

There is a system which apprently works, whereby you cofuse the computer into giving you a payout. It involves just ignoring every feature you get, and after a while it will just start paying out. I don't have the faith or the spare cash to try this, so I don't do it.

The only guaranteed way to get money out of a fruit machine is a sledge hammer but you will also need to be able to run fast.

Oh jesus when I go to st. ives each year, I end up in the arcades at night with whoever i'm with, gambling like a texan pimp.
I know the "party time" machines like the back of my hand they are so simple and it is so obvious when they are going to pay out, if someone is playing and about to leave when i see the rolls begin, and some obstinate old cnut goes (oh throw one more pound in darling) and they take it, god it pisses me off LOL. I have one of these keys too. It can't empty the hoppers on any machines, they keys have always been completly different for the hopper and the refill key slot, they were just looking for a better reason to ban you!

Knowing how much was last paid out is of no use whatsoever. It doesn't tell you how long ago it was, so how can it possibly be useful? It might have paid out £1 10 minutes ago and £20 before that, and display £1, or it mgiht have paid out £20 5 months ago, and display £20 on the screen - knowing what it last paid out is useless information.

Right, I work for a gaming company that makes electronic casino games/gamblers. Rookie is closer to the truth than he probably realises.

A gambler works on a payout principle...so it has to pay out at say 80% of what it takes in.

electronically the gambler populates a table with results.....Normally it might populate the table with 90 'loses' and ten 'wins'...it then randomly selects a place on the table. This is exactly the same with bonus features....so even though you think its 50/50 the result might be generated from a table that is stacked against you.

Conversley the machine has to pay out at 80% (by law) and once the machine reachs near its limit it has to pay out so the table with 100 places might end up with 90 wins and 10 loses on it, which is why you get them winning streaks.

Its a simple method of guaranteeing the machine will pay out the guaranteed amount. And even though it will stack the odds against you there is always the incredibly ludicrous chance you might get that 1 in ten win. But the truth is gamblers are a mugs game Wink
