I was all prepared to slate some terrible tarting. However that is quite tasteful Thumbs Up.

It's still a katana (not a good thing styling wise imo), but that's a damn nice katana!

Very nice, definitely an improvement. I would have changed the headlight though.

Customer wanted to keep the 'Kat' look, just needed updating and #1 losing that mega long seat! Laughing

Didn't go USD's to keep cost down, and also keep it 'retro'.

Thumbs Up

yea looks better, no modern bits of styling as that would have ruined it!!

If you dont mind me asking, how much did it cost roughly for the customer for you to do all that work?

Out of interest, any tips on achieving a nice matt finish? Is there any protective coating/lacqueur?

Cheers,

Will double check, lot of labour went into the bike though.

The finish on the bike is called 'smooth black', it sorta feels like velvet and just happens to come out 'matt' also Thumbs Up . It's not cheap though Thumbs Down . Can't actually give you any paint tips really cos that's not my area, but it's all down to the prepping.

Very nice, I wanted one of these when I first started riding in 1984. Was it a complete strip down or just a tidy up? Any engine work?

It was stripped to bare frame and rebuilt, engine was left as per GS1000 no internal changes, just a repaint/polish. Smile

No, it's a GS1000 motor; this Katana is the (rare) one that Suzuki built to gain entry for the bike into production racing. It uses 32mm slide carbs as opposed to the 1100's 34mm CV items.

Thumbs Up

the Gs motor is the 8 valve one and it has round crome cam caps and the engine in that bike is the gsx motor which is the 16 valve one which has square crome cam caps.

The gs https://www.thegsresources.com/images/hall_of_fame/06-2005.jpg

The gsx https://digilander.libero.it/massimo254/MOTO/Suzuki-GSX1100-1979.jpg

I used to work for a bike shop who imported them and I have stripped more of those engines than I care to remember.

It's a GSX1000SZ. Which I'm guessing is 16valve (as you say) but 1000cc.

Smile

P.S ignore the GS typo earlier - have a habit of using GS instead of GSX. Wink
