You might remember I made a thread a while back mentioning my missus got me a bearded dragon for my birthday.
Well I had him at 1 month old and we have been having loads of fun, I recently got him a much larger viv as the bugger has grown quite a lot.
Just posting some pictures to show you how Bruce is getting on, hope you like them. Wink Thumbs Up

I always wanted a lizard.

Was tempted for ages to get a Nile Monitor

https://www.gotpetsonline.com/pictures-gallery/reptile-pictures-breeders-babies/nile-monitor-lizard-pictures-breeders-babies/pictures/nile-monitor-lizard-0002.jpg

Just no real room Sad

Bearded Dragons are apparently quite docile and handled easily.

Gonna get another?

Can't see the pictures either, but more often that not it's my work's web filter removing them. Will have a look when I get back home. Had a mate who kept lizrads (geckos mostly, I believe), and they were a lot more interesting as pets than I first thought they would be. A different mate now has a tarantula, and that bores me. Lizards for the win.

My guess is pity. Wink

Have also noticed that for a few weeks beforehand he stopped swearing. Well, what I mean by that, is he stopped writing the full word. To be honest, if it was down to me, I'd make people lose an instant karma point every time they did that. If you don't want to lose karma, don't swear. If you want to swear, then fucking swear. None of this fuc*, cun*, twa*, bollocks. If you think it's offensive, don't do it. If the only reason people are "cleaning up their language" is to keep gold blobs, then those people are cunts anyway. And that's me spent. Very Happy

I thought you did care about the Karma system.

Nevermind, forget I said anything. Wasn't trying to "run" your thread.

a full grown adult can go through about 20 pounds worth of food a month.

maybe more in the summer months.

you will also need to add in the costs of bigger vivariums as the lizard grows (about 100 pounds for the largest one).

the u.v light is about 20 pounds but should last about a year.

you can use standard lightbulbs for heat.

Bearded dragons range in price depending on where you live, my local pet shop is selling beardies for £95 each! They were £75 which wasn’t that bad for a dragon.

My missus got mine from an ad on a forum, a guy was emigrating to OZ and wanted to get homes for them, bargain at £25 each!! That would be your best bet.
Ebay have some good vivariums, some guys do custom built ones for you but can be costly for what you get.
Most of those also don’t have fixings for lights, they only have the vents, making your own is not that difficult after a little research into the construction.
My new viv is a 4ft one with large UV strip heat lamp, thermostat, logs, drinking bowl, heat stone, and various other items all for £82 from Ebay.
A UV light can be anything from £10-20 depending on length, they have actually brought out a new light that supplies both the heat and the UVB for your reptile but these retail at around £65 in shops!
Standard heat lamps are about £4.99.

Personally I would go for a good second hand Viv, preferably glass with sliding front doors but wood is just as good but a little harder to clean, the vivarium for a baby beardie (1-4 months) should be quite small, ideally about 2ft wide by 1.5 deep and 1.5 in height, this is so it doesn’t overwhelm the dragon and make it stressed.
I actually have one being sold on Ebay ATM which I’m selling as I got a larger one the other week. The viv
Substrate (sand, bark etc) depends on the seller again, I have been buying ‘jungle bark’ for my beardie but have been warned about ‘impaction’ (when you dragon eats it and dies) so now I buy play sand from the early learning centre at £4 for 10kg, this is change once a month but you can do it before.
Crickets, hoppers, worms etc at my local shop is £2.50 for a box, you can buy big bags depending on how you want to feed your lizard. I get a box about once a week.
TBH every ones view on the keeping of dragons is different, try out this website it is recommended by quite a few people on the net. Also take a look at this book as it says on the cover it is a manual, cost £5 or something, I would highly recommend getting this before and just getting an idea about looking after your dragon from the beginning.

Hope this helps…

Wow nice one Killa.

Like someone said they can grow quite big, there is a lead (with a collar) which you can buy for it so you can take it for a walk like a dog Cool

Imagine how cool that would be...walking around with a lizard on a lead!!!!

I always preferred bearded clams myself. Wink Laughing

Nice vivarium. Nice and varied, I like to see them climbing about and basking like that. He is also a good colour which means he is getting enough UV, remember to keep up with those bulb changes Thumbs Up.
