My 1st day on a 'big bike' a Suzuki GS500.

I got onto a dual carriageway and my instructor told me to crank it up to 60mph. So there i was hurtling down the road feeling like Rossi (i'd been on a CG125 everyday this week so the GS felt like a rocketship) and as I changed gear again the engine started revving hard, I knew something was up but thought the gearbox had gone, I coasted to the roadabout ahead and knocked it into 1st and tried to set off, again no drive, looked down and noticed the chain had come off the back sprocket. Sad

When we got the bike pushed to the side of the road we also noticed one of the link sideplates had snapped. The other guy I was training with said i'd been unlucky, in my mind condsidering the speed I was going I was lucky, if the wheel had locked up.................

Anyway, I was suprised how fun the GS500 twin was, here'e me thinking i'd need a Sports600 to enjoy myself!

will you be getting a refund or a free retest?

I enjoyed just getting on a bike an tootling around on the 125's

Then DAS, and loving the big bikes, plenty fast enough to be fun.

Then I passed and bought myself a SV650. WOW, after only pootling, it just blew my mind Smile Smile

Good luck 2mo, i only passed my test on the 13/03/06...did all my training in the rain and even snow.

As regards to training bikes the CB500 i used really put a grin on my face...felt almighty compared to my CG125.

Just got me a GPZ500s as my first big bike...so i guess this where i really start to learn...

You were lucky, could have had a nasty accident.

I'd be cautious of using there bikes in future, make sure you give them a quick once over.

Well, my test was at 14:00 today and my lights failed as I was pulling out the car park with the examiner!!

Fucking gutted, they had to cancel the test, got it rebooked for 3rd April.

Can't believe this, I paid £569 quid for this course and had 2 bikes fail on me, they usually have a backup bike but that was getting its chain fixed after what happened the other day. I'm miffed cos the company i'm using are regarded as one of the best in my area.

New test date is in an area I don't know, so i'll be on the back foot straight away. I've asked them to give me some free hours to keep me ticking over till the new date, but still Neutral

Getting me bike on Sunday as well, was wanting to go out for a razz with me mates. Sad

I'll have to give our lass the keys or i'll be wanting to go for a spin.

I'll post pics of me bike on Sunday anyways.

p.s Just to rub it in the lights on the bike started working when we set off back home. unfuckingbelievable

Never mind mate, hope it goes better next time.

As 2 of their bikes f*cked up on you I'd do as you say and try to get a few more free hours out of them. Is pretty bad that they don't maintain something important like the chain.

Usually DAS bikes or most training school bikes are poorly maintianed and have the bare minimum of roadworthiness. Fact is they can expect you to make do with their equipment during the test and expect to do well. I felt sorry for Jammy G's dad cos a bent and poorly adjusted brake lever meant that the emergency stop didn't go to plan. He did however tell the instructor about the problem and asked to get rectified.

I wish you all the best for your next attempt. Does this mean that the training school will reimburse/pay for your test fees?

I don't know, but i think we're actually given the retest for free. If there is a charge I sure as hell won't be paying for it.

I'm hoping the company i'm training with give me a full day's lesson rather than just an hour or two to keep me fresh.

hi

at least you was only on a lesson/training.
on the day of my first full test i was riding round the roundabout in eastbourne to get to the test center my front tyre on the gs500 blew out sending me and the bike sliding accross the floor. i did take the test but on another bike the other candidate was riding, it felt completely different to the one i was used to. i failed. doh

nevermind 2 weeks later(and £55) i passed on the bike that i dropped.

good luck for the test hope it goes ok.
