BT are usually used by those that don't know any better - the elderly and those that couldn't give a crap where their money goes, so long as they get the service.

Tesco broadband all the way Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Not really, they're quite crap in all honesty

I'm really surprised Telewest doesn't completely dominate the broadband market. No download limits and perfect service, in the 4 years we've had it there's never been ONE problem. Apart from the time a lorry driver had a heart attack and smashed through the exchange, but they fixed that within 24 hours, and it's hardly something you can plan for.

Plus every 6 months they upgrade your line for free, cant wait for 8MB Very Happy.

I've been prodded by Tiscali for the same sort of thing - it's meant to be unlimited but (as with most ISPs) they have a 'fair use policy' that states you should try not to do big downloads/P2P stuff between 6-11pm. I had a couple of days where I was downloading a DVD in the evening and sure enough the warning email came. Being the first warning, all it said was to ease off the evening downloading, otherwise they put you on to a shared 'pipe' with other big users which would effectively give you a shite service in the evening. I've started doing my downloading (~30Gb/month) overnight and they've had nothing to say about it since.

Every single person I know who's with Telewest cant fault them.

6 years with Telewest and cant say a bad word about them, did have a bit of down time once when the box down the road was broke into, they worked through the night and gave us a time down refund, and now they are upgrading to 10 meg for no price increase.

Cant reccomend them enough to people . Thumbs Up

Not an explanation mate, it was right at the front of my house.

Admittedly I'd think it was a bit rich if I lived miles away and that was the excuse they gave.

NTL cable broadband. Flawless. Seriously, 2 years no downtime nothing, download speeds are good for a 2mb con.

BT already kicked me off for excessive use. Tiscali have put me on reduced speed connection, which seems to be worse than a 56k modem. Who would you recommend for ADSL?

A few mates have recommended Pipex. Anyone used them?

I'm on telewest aswell and never had any problems.. but it's a shame they're merging with NTL because NTL sucked bigtime when i was on there.. always cutting me off and couldn't download anything without them cutting the conenction off all the time.

Where did you get this from, I had broadband with Telewest, before ADSL was even invented (well may be not, but back years ago, you could only get broadband with cable).

I must have been with them for 8 or 9 years, i've had no problems.

Where do you get your info are you a Telewest customer.

Plus you get a full newsgroup feed.

I'd rather have my 1 to 1 uncontended, 10mb Telewest line with full UUNet feed, than Bulldog???

Sorry mate, but I view your post as offensive. I work in comms and I know a good supplier.

Sorry you feel that way mate. I am an ex telewest customer, I was with them for about 2 years but to be honest this was a while ago, their dial up service was ok buth the broadband service in preston was shocking when I was on it.

Also i work in the IT industry so come accross different providers and systems on a daily basis so my opinion is based on fact not just one bad experience.

I also dont know of anyone who has been able to conect a new account 1st time without having to ring NTL to get something resolved at their end.

Firstly I think there is some confusion between Telewest and NTL at the moment they are seperate, Telewest are in differing areas to NTL. Friends over the border often complain about NTL, where I am everyone seems happy with Telewest.

With regards to a newsgroup feed, you need to know what your doing, basicaly have a look a round for a program called Newsbin Pro. You will also need unrar and something called quickpar. It is abit involved to get setup, I had to be shown, but the rewards are great, lots of films, music, you name it. But it isn't easy, you have to be a bit of a techno sad case like me. Have a look for some guides and have a very good read.

Telewest on the full package gives you unrestriced access at full speed to Newgroups, which hardly anyone else does.

Ohh today I went 10mb !!!! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Hi,

I am with Nildram (you cant have cable where I live) and they have been really good. The bad part is it has to come over the BT lie which is only 512mb on a good day.
Without Nildrams help sorting it I dont think it would work at all.

the neigbours are with PIPEX (slightly cheaper) the system works about the same but the customer service is not as good as Nildram but loads better than BT

Regards
C

I know loads of people slag off NTL, but I've had the service since 1997 (when the customer service was rubbish and they weren't NTL) and have enjoyed a near zero downtime service. I know it depends on what area you're in blah blah blah, but for me it works very well (and I do download lots of stuff so not really an 'occasional' user).

BCF ISP usage stats???

A.

im with telewest and they seem ok but i dont like the fact that new customers are charged half what i am charged.

i am tempted to cancel my service, then sign up with them to ge the new customer deal but i am addicted to bcf and wd struggle to do a week without it
