Well it wasn't raining when we got up today, so work finally commenced on the 400. Bear in mind it has been in my shed for about 18 months now and was in the garden of the previous owner for at least 2 years, unwanted, unloved and more importantly unused!
Took the tank off and discovered it was full of yucky brown stuff that definitely wasn't petrol, so we took the taps off, gave tank and taps a good squirt with choke and carb cleaner then swilled them out with petrol. Put the tank back on and connected everything up, so far so good. Put some petrol in the tank, sat back to watch. Yay, no sign of any leaks........ Drained the yucky stuff from the carbs & drew some petrol through, all still looking ok......
Connected up a new battery. Switch on, neutral light is on, promising....... Full choke, turn the key, press the button and.......
IT STARTED FIRST TIME!!!!
Engine sounds sweet as anything, no knocks or rattles as it idles. Coolant was running through the rad OK, no chuffs or smoking from the exhaust. I was well impressed! Not tried it under load yet, but himself reckons it should be fine.
Have made a start on the clean-up (I'll take some pics when it's a little further along) but at he moment it looks like most of the work on it to get it back on the road will only be cosmetic.
I know I'm sad but I'm so excited! ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

Bet it was a great feeling when it fired up, especially after sitting so long. My KLE isn't keen after a cold weekend!
Well done, and keep us posted on your progress with it.
